e300 td
hi my e300 diesel has lost power it will build up speed on the motor way and go over 3000 rpm in neuteral or park it revs very freely but its slugish going up hills and will slow down i've taken the pipe from the air box to the turbo off to see if there was any suction and there was on tick over it nealy sucked my hand in also theres no kick down any hep would be greatful thanks

I had a similar problem with my Jag x-type.

Do you have any warning lights? For me, each time it happened it I would get 2 little circles appear. It was always the EGR Valve. This cost about £160 to replace!

For my mate on his Audi A5, same problem and waring lights, and it was his Diesel particulate filter!

My money is on it being the egr

Hi ya, by the sound of it it is in limp mode but without any other info it is hard to say what could be causing it

1 w210 e300td's do have an ECU and therefore you need to get the fault codes read by hooking it up to a computer. A trip to a reputable INDEPENDENT garage specialising in mercs is required.
2 google about a bit if you want to get an ideas of possible causes so you can understand what the garage may tell you.
3 prepare to open your wallet.

Does it run OK for the first few minutes, if so I suspect the EGR valve isn't operating, otherwise it is likely to be the waste-gate actuator, vacuum pipe or transducer is split.

Check the MAF output. Pin-5 should measure ~2v at idle, ~4.3V at full revs, no boost.

It won't be anything much, it's a 300TD.

Another thing to check is that the pressure pipe to the MAP sensor hasn't split.

Not much else on a 300TD will cause this type of problem.

As above, MAF, EGR , Boost control sensor, loss of pressure in the boost pipes ( leak) will cause loss of boost, but its only intermitent.
If its after starting and loss of power come after a mile I go for the MAF after checking the EGR is free.
DEfo it look like a boost loss. Its a pain as the car will not go and is really sluggish. Its also dangerous...
I'm selling few MAF for not much if you want to give it a try? Check the sales on my name.

I have looked at the egr took the inlet manifold off (i didnt find the small 5 mm alen stud for about an hour) there was a small amount of carbon but not much, maf reading 2volt and 4 volt, no leaks i have even cleaned the intercooler a small amount of oil in it but cant check as it wont crank just makes a clunking noise i;ve tried jump starting but justs makes a clunking noise i;m ready for pulling my hair out

Test the battery and re-charge. Vac transducers are the most common cause of lack of power on the 300td

I#ve changed the battery off my boat a 700 amp but it still just clunks its coming from th starer motor any ideas

This is a different matter. I thought it was lack of power, now you are talking of a non starter? This has nothing to do with all the above, egr maf etc...
the little allen bolt is a bugger indeed if you don't know about it...
Also, something different, that will not help you with the clunk, but did you look at :
The fuel pre-filter,
changed the fuel filter,
look at the tnak strainer?

the starter motor has given up the ghost so i have to get one ,i'll be back when i have fitted one ,and i'll try the tank fillter as i have changed the diesel filter

i have fitted a new starter and she starts great ive changed all the pipes on the vac side and shes better at least shes accelerating fingers crossed
