Thinking that my Turbo has gone?

I was driving yesterday when the car lost power and went into limp mode.

Pulled over and turned the engine off and back on and it worked fine for about a mile before it happened again.

The problem is getting worse and now the car starts but it splutters and bellows grey smoke occasionally.

I stripped the filter area to look at the turbo unit and it appears that it may have previously being leaking oil.

Does anyone know a good Turbo repair establishment or have an idea how much a stealer would charge to have it replaced.

I recently got one from STK Turbo Tecnik in Germany. 571 Euros for a new unit by Garrett for my 2000 E220 CDI. Send an email to [email protected]

This doesn't sound like the utrbo is shot. Maybe the variable vanes are stuck so causing low/overboost conditions.

You need to have the codes read because most faults will put the ecu into limp home mode giving the symptoms you describe.

This could be something like the EGR valve.

The oil is probably from the engine breather hose.

Diesel Man your bang on! the problem turned out to be the EGR.

Best regards
