As maybe folk have read, I am currently looking for some new wheels ( for my 350 W212) and going for 20" would I be able to lower it 30pm all round without any problems or I take it 19" would be better if I were to lower it??.. also does anyone have pics of an e-class with 19" and lowered or 20" and lowered? ?? Thanks.

Ideally you should change the shocks to match the shorter suspension travel. Best to go with a matched set of springs and shocks.

As the overall rim+tyre diameter will have to remain the same it won't matter which you go for when lowering. Either of which, on it's own, will degrade the ride quality but that is very much subjective. What's not so subjective is the cost of those tyres each time you have to replace one when you hit a pothole....

If you wanted to keep the wheels OEM, there are some 19s on the Bay ATM for an E class, at a decent price, given they are refurbed and come with tyres (albeit budget I think).

Hi folks, I was thinking about lowering my w212 E250 Avantgarde but keeping the standard fit 18" alloys, is it necessary to do both the shocks & springs or is it possible to fit say Eibach springs with a quoted 25mm drop ? I'm just after a slightly lower stance for the car.

Has anyone done similar ?

Thanks for any help :thumb:

Perfectly possible, you just won't get the best ride from the mismatched parts. It may be perfectly acceptable, very subjective.

Might you be able to fit thinner shims/spring cups, thereby retaining the OEM ride?

Thanks very much for the speedy reply, I'll pay a visit to the mechanic that we use and ask him what he thinks, excuse my ignorance but I don't know what a spring cup/shim is :o

Thanks again :thumb:

It's a rubber washer or cushion that fits on top of the spring, MB supply different thicknesses depending on model and options fitted to give the design ride height.

Thanks for explaining to me , I appreciate that
