CLK w208
Hi

I have a CLK W208 and am going to buy some 19 inch wheels. 19 x 8.5 front and 19 x 9.5 rear. I think the car will sit too high and want to lower the car. I am thinking of getting some Eibach prokit springs. What is the maximum I can lower the car without it rubbing or needing modifications. My car is an avantgarde model so will I need shocks?

Thanks
chris

Shazamg would be a good person to speak to - he has a clk which is sat on 19s irc.

We had a w208 CLK 430 Avantgarde on 19's , very , very uncomfortable ride indeed , spine shattering when hitting potholes , bear in mind that this was on standard shocks and suspension .....

Lowering it is only going to make this worse ....

We now have a w208 CLK 430 Avantgarde on 18's (you can see it below) , which is unbeleiveably better, just by dropping an inch in wheels size ......

I think you might find that it will look very nice on 19's but will be miserable to drive in the long run ....

But good luck whatever you choose to do !

Thanks Howard

I know what u mean...iv had mixed views from a lot of people and am still unsure as to what to do...does anybody else have any other thoughts..id be glad to hear from you

Hi Chris, if you’re going to lower the car, I recommend the Eibach sportliners, don’t do what I did and customise the sportliners, they are low enough standard; the ride quality is very good for the drop you get too.

The picture below is what mine used to look like, I had to change it otherwise my arches would have ended up down on the M25 somewhere!

I had the sportline springs installed, dreading to see what the car would look like once off the ramps and to my shock the suspension hardly changed! about 1inch front and 1.5inch rears, infact it was still too low because I had #1 pads in, so I’m now running number 4 pads all round, an approved suspension setup and the ride quality is great. I don’t have any pictures of the cars new suspension yet, will sort it out for you once I get a chance.

Dude .....

that car park has got to be the best photo location i've ever seen, every single picture you take in there looks stunning :bannana:

Thanks Shaz

With the 19 inch wheels will the drop from the sportliners be too much - as in will it rub? Also will I need to change the shocks? I was looking at H&R suspension kit with springs and shocks for a very reasonable price...do you still recommend the eibachs?

Thanks

Chris

I agree:rock: But I bet the camera plays a good part in it as well,What sort is it shaz?

Thanks for the comments.

The eibach sport liners will not causing rubbing if you’re running the right spring pads. If I remember correctly the avantgarde suspension is lower then the elegance? So the worse case is you’ll need to play with spring pads a little. I haven’t changed the shocks, maybe in another 10k or so.

Pluggers, the camera is nothing special, it’s a Fuji FinePix 450, the lighting in the carpark is outer this world, Mambos had a few pics done, I think they are in his gallery, check them out!

cheerz shaz..wil post pics up when its all done
