Luton Airport car park fire

Stumbled across this:

Anyone care to guess which company is this?

The whole bankrupt debacle of net zero and bloated government dogma is causing vehicle manufacturers into corporate suicide. Look around at the debt that VW are carrying alone against future sales to realise that fields and old stadia full of unsold electric vehicles is the reality of the situation. It just isn’t happening, and the emperor is stood there in the nude for all to see.
There are thousands of acres of old airfields in the UK, all packed full of v new ICE cars, unsold, unleased and unwanted, Mercs/BMW/Audis. Is it not in reality the ICE kings who have no clothes?

Robert the Bruce, sat on his throne and ordered the seas to retreat, which didn’t get him very far, though it did see him drowned;)

A bit too much wine? Robert the Bruce most likely died of leprosy at about 55. King Cnut was the one that ordered the sea to stop coming in.....and he did it just a few miles from me in Bosham, West Sussex.

Far too much actually😃

Out in the real world, there’s enormous push back on the EV transition. The folks who bought top ten selling cars and all those dreadful SUV’s aren’t anywhere near reaching into their pocket to buy EVs, New or used.

Norway may be converting its tiny population of cars, but it’s not happening in the Americas, Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India or South East Asia, or Australasia.
Just a quick point on the Middle East - quite a few EV's on the road in the UAE, charging points springing up all over the place.

Below is a Snip from the Dubai Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) Website

The Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has endorsed a plan to transform taxis in Dubai (Dubai Taxi and franchise company taxis) into 100% environmentally friendly (hybrid, electric and hydrogen-powered) by 2027. The move meets the requirements of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the Green Economy drive, and the Dubai Government's strategic directions toward comprehensive environmental sustainability.

To be clear, I'm not supporting either side of the ICE /EV debate raging on here, just highlighting that the ME isn't immune to the spread of EV's.

Well driving on maybe a 25 mile round trip I notice around 6 EV 's more than half will be Teslas,of course you are a bit like a mouse up against a elephants foot you get a very small view in the case of the mouse he sees something grey and round, but without doubt EV's have not been bought in any numbers by the general car owner, interesting a poster said that the dutch have bought lots of EV's well I have not seen that on the A120 with lots of dutch cars making for Harwich for the morning ferry also in the Premire Inn where quiet a few overnight before catching the ferry,as for the car companies making them well they have nearly all acted like sheep all following each other, suspect a couple will stop production soon it just plain common sense.

Why would I have to prove negligence?....there is video evidence that shows which car started the fire....so it his fault. Negligence does not come into it. That's like saying that you could not claim against a guy who handbrake cable snapped and his car rolled into your car (like I did a few years when a car rolled into mine in West Bay Dorset!). He wasn't negligent....it was a fault with the car.....like the one that burst into flames clearly had a fault. His insurance company paid out, no issue.
I bow to your superior knowledge on the subject - I only dealt with liability issues for 30 years. The other to consider is that there will be a policy limit for liability under the terms of the owners policy which I suspect will go nowhere near the ultimate costs which will result from the fire.

Only 8 EVs in 25 miles of driving? I’m surprised that you saw so few. I think I would either lose count or forget to keep counting I see so many EVs when I’m driving.

I suspect 25 miles on the country lanes through the Scottish borders in the middle of the night might be different, but there seem to be manu EVs on motorways, main roads and urban areas.

without doubt EV's have not been bought in any numbers by the general car owner
The vast majority of EVs purchased are either brand new or almost new, and they’re typically in the more expensive segments, ie not superminis.

How many general car owners, that is to say private individuals and not businesses, buy brand new or almost new ICE cars in the same price brackets? Not many either.

Brand new cars - and especially relatively expensive - cars are typically bought by businesses, and that has been the case for many years now. EVs haven’t changed that.

I think Canute sat on the beach and ordered the tide to stay out to prove to his subjects that he could NOT make it happen as they were demanding things from him that were unachievable and he needed to prove it to them.

Thats how I understand that piece of history ...not 100% sure as I was not there that day.

It would have been handy to have old Canute around while discusing HS2 and zero net carbon....

Back to the Luton fire . This clip is mainly about people talking about insurance , It can be viewed with the volume down. Just look at the randomness of the burned out cars , in the first few seconds we see a Tesla and other cars on the top deck completely unscathed with a nearby car completely burnt out. Obviously the flames from below licked over the edge and caught that car.

Around 1:35 in there is a totally intact VW in an area where other cars are burnt husks , So a bit of a lottery for those parked there .

It does seem to me to suggest in this sort of car park the best place to park in case of fire would be at the very top (if open to the elements) and in a far corner where a crane can reach your car. Lets face it they are usually the most unpopular spaces under normal circumstances .

Is the thread back on track now or are we still banging on about EV's in general ?

That totally backs up what I saw when leaving Luton Airport last weekend. A large crane was unloading what appeared to be a pristine Blue Audi from the top floor and lowering to a flat bed to be taken away. Yet the row of cars visible from the road leading down to the mid-term car park were either ALL grey or very charred

If that's true, I suspect it's the result of the manufacturers controlling supply to keep the price up. They have got used to the post covid bigger profit margins and won't want to give them up easily but if they are too expensive people won't buy them. They are going to pay big fines on IC cars in years to come as the required percentage sales of EV's vs IC's increases, so they will have to shift them soon.

Maybe some impact from the cost of living crisis/times are hard/interest rates etc?

Car prices are more expensive than they were a few years ago, leasing and finance costs have risen a lot too.

Another piece to back up my theory is that earlier this year a house in Pagham about a miles from me was severely damaged by fire (it's still being repaired inside it's scaffolding house even now ) after a motorcycle in the attached garage burst into flames in that freaky hot whether we had. The house repairs are being funded by his motorcycle insurance company....how is that so different?....scale aside of course!
