Luton Airport car park fire

Only 8 cars on sale, out of 900 sold during the year? They must be fabulous.

Won't compare well to the Porsche Taycan, that's for sure.

I'm backing out of this Rabbit hole. My point was only that I'd notice them seemingly collapse in value by 40% over the last 12 months.

Now, about these BMW i3 Sports: will Bilsteins improve their ride ? That's the big unanswered question
Lots of questions with the e-Golf many of which I simply can’t answer (they’ve never been on my radar and I’m not in the market for one)

But in terms of values, as mentioned earlier, a lot of car values have slumped in the last year or so. I think it’s more of a correction from an artificially high starting point.

Take a few non-EV comparisons and you might find many cars have broadly suffered a similar drop in value. And even if it’s 20 or 30%, maybe the real world drop of the e-Golf isn’t as significant as you may be thinking? :)

150 WLTP miles when new, or 150 real-world miles as a 5 year old car?
Assuming it has a genuinely usable 150 mile range that would be perfect for daily local pottering around, but less so if the car is only used for longer runs at the weekend (both of which could average out at 150 miles a week).
Like the R129 5 litre, fuel consumption varies according to the type of driving. (I used to get 9mpg on my 1998 E55 on the school run)

Parkers reckoned 120 miles on "normal driving" on "normal roads." City driving would be better.

I haven't heard anyone suggest that range on an EV is significantly lower after 30,000 miles / five years.

Much depends on whether people are prepared to routinely plug a car in when they get home. ICE stalwarts believe that you should only fill a car with electricity when it needs filling.

That’s crazy. Where do you live and where is your office??
That's normal.
It used to take me just under an hour to drive 7 miles into Oxford St and Farringdon Road EC1 back in the day when I had a parking space under the building.

Traffic in London has been stuck at around 8mph for the last 125 years.

To be fair that’s not unusual for London travel. Works out between 7-10mph approx?

I can think of several journeys in outer London that take just as long comparatively if you’re travelling at peak times (remember that outdated phrase - ‘rush hour’!)

As i said at the beginning, the e-Golf seems to have dropped by 40% these last 12 months, while the 2018 Golf GTI and GTD haven't changed by anywhere near as much. Over the last five years i.e. since brand spanking new, the GTI and GTD seem to have only dropped by 30%

(Weighs coin in hand) Forget a town runabout.....Heads: stay with E500; Tails: buy a diesel....

My office is 7 miles away from my home. It takes me between 45 to 60 minutes to drive there (depending on the time of day - London traffic).

An EV with a real-life range of 150 miles, will be more than enough for anyone with a daily commute similar to mine, and it will only need to be charged once a week.

Absolutely. But quite a few people commute by public transport etc. and do nearly all their annual mileage at weekends. The last time I commuted to work by car was in 1983 :D

It seems the Golf GTI and possibly GTD are the outliers then - most used car prices were very high a year or two back following the pandemic, and most have since corrected themselves to a degree (but possibly still higher than what we may have been used to in the past)

Very few 5 year old diesel hatchbacks have such strong residuals as you indicate for the GTD and likewise most will be worth less today than they were a year ago - that’s normal! :)

I live near Paddington, the office is in Hackney

I gave an example of someone in my situation, but I don't usually drive to the office, instead I mostly take the Underground (Elizabeth Line, then Overground), it's quicker.

So you do occasionally drive to the office then?

About once a month, yes.

I have an off-street parking spot, BTW. Just don't see the point in driving, the Underground is more convenient, unless I need to drive for whatever reason.

I had very cheap private parking available on-site for much of the time I was based in London (37 years) but never drove in - going by train was much faster and (normally) less stressful!

Leave earlier. 👍
Nooooo !!!!!

That's what they used to say when I worked in The City !

I don't want to be in at 7 and out at 5.

I want to be in and hungover at 8.45 and leave at 7pm going on 10....

What price a quiet hour with neither wife nor underlings to disturb ?
