Luton Airport car park fire

I was always fascinated by the exotic names of foreign cities on the 'wireless' tuner dial. Needless to say we were never able to receive any of them, but reading the names on the dial was like opening a magical book...

Nobody remember Rediffusion? Cable TV back in the 60's, they were well ahead of the curve!
Yep, remember it as a kid, with the bakelite switch in the window. 🙂

For some reason, the only one I remember on my grandparent's wireless is Hilversum

I vaugly remember my gran had a TV 'remote' with just a few buttons on it and a wire running under the carpet to the TV . I was only little so my memory might be a bit hazy on that one.
I don’t remember wired remotes on TV's, but they were quite common on the early VCR's.

I’m sure my Aunty had a wired remote for her tele. It had Teletext too. Mind blowing at the time, it seemed well posh.

Does anyone remember the Philips tv that printed out your desired Ceefax page? I’m not sure it worked for Oracle though.

Wow! That one certainly passed me by.

Christmas 1980: big fuss over the arrival of my new Sony Betamax C7 from "those awfully nice Sony people."

Never miss a TV programme or film on TV again. Can't get much better than this !

Worth every penny of the £600 that it cost. (Call it a month's average salary for a bloke at the time, before tax)

I'll see your "Hilversum" and raise you a "Vatican" and "Stavanger."

Apart from subscription or consumption based services which simply didn’t exist - like TV/Music streaming or Internet/ - which other things are bought through monthly payments in 2023 but weren’t in say 1973?
And now we have "Klarna," Europe's biggest Fintech until recently.
Valued at $6 billion, yet lost a billion last year. Hoping to float soon for $10 billion.

Just a click as you buy something online, and they've got you.....
