M103 Head gasket question

I notice oil seems to be coming out from the head gasket on my 300SE W126 so I'm wondering if I should have it done. Any idea how many labour hours this might be at a garage?

Also, while it's off, should I have any other stuff done?

Mine is a 1988 with just over 100k on the clock.

Probably worth replacing the valve stem oil seals whilst the head is off. They're cheap to buy and much easier to replace with the head off. A good old fashioned decoke - valve seats lapped wouldn't go amiss. The engine should be good for the next 23 years and you'll enjoy driving the car more knowing it's been done.

I would also go with £500-600....I had a HG done on a SL300-24v...slightly more complex engine to yours and it cost me £650

Thanks folks. I had thought about giving it a go myself. Probably just more time consuming than difficult but I'm not sure I would ever feel quite comfortable with it. Best to get the garage to have a look.

What about timing chain tensioners?
