Im taking the cylinder head off my car ,all is going well but ive hit a snag . How do i remove the pin holding the cham chain guide rails . There threaded internaly .
Cheers Steve

You need a long 10mm bolt mate, lock together two 10mm nuts with a flat washer high up the thread. Screw the bolt all the way in until it stops, wind the nuts down to the head and lock them together. Then turn in inner nut with a spanner, this will remove the chain guide stud :thumb:

Cheers Justin , I got it sorted . I also discovered where the gasket was blowing and aslo a broken head bolt . The head is going away on monday for pressure testing .

Can the head be skimed on these engines ? and if so by how much .Im not even sure the head would need to be skimed but I like to kniw just in case

Why are you doing the Head Gasket mate ?

I don't think it is recommended to skim these heads. I do not have access to my WIS to confirm this right now.

see the red above :D

Thanks for the info lads ,
The cars been acing up of late and costing me a packet . So far I have changed the cam sprockets and cam chain .Then I started loosing coolant and discovered i needed a head gasket . Hopefully he head will be ok , I cant see any cracks on the head or block , and Im getting it tested on monday so fingers crossed it will be ok .

Did not read it properly

Only reason i ask is that these engines can also leak coolant from the two O rings between the timing cover and engine block, behind the water pump :thumb:

I checked these O rings there ok , my only worry now is if the head has warped , though this should be unlikley as the car never over heated , infact it was taking longer to warm up latley and the fuel comsumption was higher than norm .

Reference the string below. We have an SLK 200 and it's losing oil to the water.

Below Justin said:

'these engines can also leak coolant from the two O rings between the timing cover and engine block, behind the water pump'

If there's a leak there does the water end up on the floor or in the oil?

Thanks, Clive

In the oil
