M6/M74 Speed Monitoring

You can protect against laser and radar my cars are invisible to those ;) It's those darned SPECS you can't beat or a sneaky cop in an Unmarked doing a following check.

So with Shields Up you're protected apart from attack by the Klingons.

Can you remember that forum member that bragged about speeding when and where he liked because he had a set of false plates?

A sensible lad he was not.

I don't remember that one but that is plain stupid  but I agree fine line between smart and stupid :D

You can avoid getting clocked via SPECS by driving so close to the vehicle in front that the camera doesn't read the VRM as it passes.

Or tailgate a large goods / passenger vehicle as you pass a camera.

Then drive at excess speed and do the same at the next set of cameras.

Not recommended as it's clearly dangerous driving but I have witnessed it.

Now that is madness but must admit I'd never thought of that  not that I would do it :thumb: but I guess you are really chancing your luck if you cant get up behind another vehicle in time at the next camera

Well, rain stopped play so no worries about the bronze in this weather.

Chucking it down when I left and still chucking it down when I arrived 220 miles later - yuk :(.

I had an interesting experience today while traveling through a restricted speed section of the M1 at St Albans.

The speed had been dropped to 50mph then 40mph due to congestion on the M25 causing queuing on the M1.
As I traveled in the 50mph limit a woman in an X5 closed up and flashed me, but due to traffic I had nowhere to move to, so carried on.
As we approached the 40mph sign mounted on a gantry with cameras at ~50mph she flashed me again.
I had to brake quite sharply to avoid speeding past the camera, at which point she nearly hit the back of my car.

Strange.

Nothing strange about a woman in an X5 being unable to read the road signs.

Most of them don't even indicate ...

I would normally use my screenwashers at that point so that some of it might helpfully clean her windscreen too - so that she could better see the signage

It was raining hard anyway, so no need to wash the screen.

At least she knows where the light switch is. One day she'll learn that it moves up and down as well as back and forth ;)

I use that stretch with the variable speed limit every day and am reliably informed that the cameras are working now (as I have seen them flash, I trust this!).

However, the gap between the speed limit signs is very long in some places, you can almost forget the limit in between them! And they vary from bridge to bridge far too much for my liking....

Edit - also got caught speeding on the M74 at J13 I think, doing 83 mph, by a camera van on a bridge over the motorway - it was at the bottom of a down hill stretch which obviously caused the unexpected increase in speed, and on a dry bright may morning at about 9.45 am when there was nothing else on the road. Very safety conscious...

I always stand in plain view next to my marked patrol vehicle, wearing a high vis jacket. And yet drivers are still oblivious to my presence!

Too busy on the phone I expect :D
