MAPs Upgrade

Welcome.

1. The W213 was released in 2017, so I think that either your car is not W213, or it is not MY 2015?

2. Your car will have either the basic Audio20 infotainment system with the Garmin Map Pilot Navigation on SD-Card, or the higher-end COMAND APS unit that has an internal built-in HDD that stores the navigation software and maps data.

3. The Garmin Map Pilot software and maps data for the Audio20 unit are stored on an SD-Card. To update it, you’ll need to purchase a new SD-Card. They are available from MB dealers, or from eBay (but be wary of fakes).

4. COMAND units do have an SD-Card slot, but it is not used for navigation or maps. The maps update is done by downloading the maps data from the Internet onto a USB drive, then uploading the maps data in the car from the USB drive to the internal HDD in the COMAND unit. You will need to purchase a PIN code, that will be unique to your car's VIN, again either from a dealer or online.

I suggest that you start by correctly identifying the model and year of your car (e.g. W212 2015), and the type of infotainment system fitted to the car (i.e. Audio20 or COMAND).

Do you have COMAND or Audio 20? What message does the sat nav display when first switched on?

You need a PIN number to update the maps, available from MB dealer, COMAND.online.UK or ebay sellers from Lithuania, the maps can be downloaded for free, but without a PIN number at anything up to £200, you cannot upload them to your car.

Your car is W212 and it has COMAND Online NTG4.5/4.7, and the Digital Radio (DAB) option.

This is what you need to buy in order to update the maps:

Latest version is v2.0 (2022-2023).

I believe October is usually when a new update is released for uk maps?

Doesn't make any difference, if Mercedes are not releasing map updates, then no-one can release any pirate copies. Anything bought from these sites will still be 3 years out of date.

No they will not. Mine was up to date as were others that purchased from him.

You're lucky, my cars have Comand NTG 2.5 and NTG 4, last map updates are 2018-19 and none since! I've recently bought a screen phone mount for the SLK so I can use Google Maps, know it works offline (do not have roaming internet) but have yet to try it other than hand held in BIL's car when going to his parent's new house - where it worked fine.

takes pity
Instructions and code were messaged when receipt of the dongle was confirmed. In truth instructions were not needed, as soon as the code was entered it updated and I just followed the screen prompts such as they were.
The new maps have a different colour set than the previous maps.
This is the map version.
2021/2022 (v15) Europe

which MB wanted a lot more money for.
