MB Audio & Aux input

My new ML arrived last week and I've swopped the Audio 10 for a Clarion head unit and Neo mp3 player from my previous car. Everything works fine but I don't like the look of the Clarion.
Does anyone have a suggestion of which MB audio unit will accept aux in. I know Command will but how about Audio 30 APS, etc?I don't need to be able to control the Neo as it has it's own control panel.

I was told that Audio 30 APS had no non-optical inputs or outputs... Doubt anything can be hooked up to Audio 30 APS?

:bannana: :bannana: :) :) Looks as though Flyer must must have the last word like a woman. He must be a real bundle of fun to live with :) :) :bannana: :bannana:

Comand has got 3 stereo audio ins, two of which can have video ins as well..

Comand also has video and audio outs for rear screens

... assuming you have the TV Tuner (or other interface) - which, for the amount they cost, is a pretty large assumption ;) . COMAND on its own only has one AUX input. But as No10 wasn't asking about COMAND, it's largely irrelevant :)

TV for COMAND

it gets expensive if you try to add tv/av later.. but even then if you know a man that can its not too bad..

as its largely irrelevent, i assume you dont want to know where to get it from..!!

Steve P

Do you know a man that can? I've seen quite a few TV tuners on ebay but I don't thinl I'm up to doing the install. Keen to add TV to my factory fit Comand 2.0 but have been put off by the cost so far...

Hello No10

The Audio 30 APS doesn't have an aux input. I've connected my Neo (excellent MP3 player) to the Audio 30 APS using the RF modulator that came with the Neo. You have the option of 2 FM frequencies - just tune the radio to one seleceted on the modulator. The quality is good enough for my ears.

£30! Yes, I'd love to know where you can obtain an interface with AV inputs (just the one set will do) for COMAND (suitable for PS2, DVD player, etc) for only £30.

I'm sure everybody on this board is eagerly awaiting your reply :)

Thanks for that very interesting... I don't want to hijack the thread however is there any way I could hook up an amp?

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried the FM modulator in my previous car (SAAB 93 convertible) and thought the quality was awful - so I don't want to go that route again. Looks like I'm going to have to go for Command,or find a head unit that looks better than my Clarion, which sticks too far out of the dash.
Has anyone fitted a Becker? They must be similar in style to the OEM units?

Flyer seems to have taken a dislike to me.
How do you work that out then? I don't know you!

Read my post again - there are many people on this board who have COMAND and would like the TV Tuner/AV inputs, but are unwilling to pay what they cost. I would like an interface with AV inputs so that I can hook up a PS2 (not bothered about TV) ... so when you come along and say that instead of paying £800 for a MB tuner, or £400-odd for a Megacomm interface, you can get one for £30, then clearly I, and many others, are going to be interested and "eagerly await your reply". After all, we have many members here who have fitted COMAND and related accessories and I would have expected somebody to have come up with this by now. But, benefit of the doubt and all that ...

Anyway he seems to think you cant buy a Comand interface for £30

Here is the one for £30

Ahem!

This interface gives one audio/visual input into the original Mercedes Command "2.0 or 2.5" system. NOTE: The head unit must already have the Mercedes "TV Tuner" installed.
(My emphasis)

No, just wrong!

Quite frankly, that's up to you. But if you expect to come on here and spout stuff and expect to not be questioned on it, then you are clearly on the wrong site.

Sorry if I have offended
Steve, no offence taken, but I was a little surprised at your response. Never mind, everything's cool

if you read my earlier post i did say the cost depends on how many av or audio inputs you want and if you have a tv tuner as well..

this is what i said:
the comand interface is £30-£200 depending on how many inputs and whether you have tv or not..

i was only trying to help, but if you think i am on the wrong site then i will take all the other information i have with me... please private message me if you want information or help now.. bye

 Sigh ... my last post was conciliatory towards you - I don't have the time nor inclination to get involved in arguments on fora, and yet you come back with a threat to leave because I, one member, put a straight-forward question to you  .

OK, I'll make the time:

The original poster was enquiring whether any MB audio units, other than COMAND, have an AUX-IN input. That's all. Nothing about AV inputs or rear screens on COMAND. You reply with this:

tvcam said:
Comand has got 3 stereo audio ins, two of which can have video ins as well..

Comand also has video and audio outs for rear screens

I pointed out that this statement is incorrect. COMAND does NOT have 3 stereo audio ins, NOR does it have video and audio outs for rear screens. If you add the TV tuner, you have those facilities, but COMAND itself does not have them as standard. So, would you say you were wrong on that point?

My response here was correcting your statement that COMAND has AV inputs. It doesn't. I also stated that it was irrelevant because the OP hadn't asked about COMAND.

You took offence at this post. Reading it again, I still can't work out why  . I've already explained my reasons for wanting to know about a £30 interface. It was obvious that we were talking about a COMAND installation that didn't already have a TV tuner; if a TV tuner was already fitted, you wouldn't need any extra interface to connect a PS2.

Why didn't you just come back and say that Car Audio Direct have an interface for £30 that gives you an extra AV input, but has to have the MB TV tuner fitted? But then go on to say that they do one for £280 that does give you AV inputs and doesn't need the TV tuner? You'd have still got the  response, but at least that would be cheaper than anywhere else I've seen them (except s/h on eBay).

Instead you act all hurt and wounded and trot out the first of your leaving threats:

See that? That's me being conciliatory. Bit too subtle, hey?

tvcam said:

... and here's the second of the threats. Something tells me Steve, that you are new to fora and the ways of the internet. Apologies if I'm wrong, but that's how you come across.

Note also the smileys used in my replies. Without being condescending, why do you think we use smileys? I'll give you a clue; to infer meaning that is missing from the raw text in front of you, that you would normally receive from the speaker's tone and inflection.

Nobody wants you to leave, but if you think that threatening to leave over such a trivial matter is going to get me, or anyone else, to plead with you to stay ... well, think again! :D (for the avoidance of doubt, that means I'm just having a laugh with you)

I think, especially today, we shouldn't be arguing over such silly things ...

With huge apologies to No10 for the thread hijack :)

Hear hear Flyer.

the £30 adapter is only needed if you have the older Tv tuner that doesnt already have the 2 sets of built in phono input sockets. Most TV tuners on ebay are the later type.

I know, I have fitted Tv to my own ML & other E55.
I have also fitted a megacomm adapter to give a feed to a rear/roof mounted monitor .

AS Flyer says, the bottom line is clearly comand on its own only supports 1 audio input and that needs a special Mb adapter cable (£15 or so) .

I didn't know that; thought they all did. Safely logged away :)
