MB drivers: good or bad?

The BMW 3-series and Audi fall into the lower-management company car bracket, young go-getters and junior mangers or mid-level salesmen. This way of driving is often the way they talk to people and generally go about life: the car is simply an extension of this.

It's treated as an extension of something else.....................

I live in London so apart from ambulances and fire brigades, everyone is a bad driver. However when I get on the motorway, I find Range Rovers are the worst (well most 4x4s but expecially Range Rovers)

In particular, Range Rover SPORT - a misnoma if there was ever one...

The C3200 I was following at lunch time would have driven anyone nuts, 25 mph on a 40 mph road, hesitating at every junction, pulling away at slower than a snail in a drag race.

I think his flat hat had had fallen over his eyes.

Especially the 2.7 diesel one:D, wouldnt mind a got in the supercharged one though:) easy to tell instead of landrover badge with a green background its black instead, but of course they just pop off!

I would say that GENERALLY Mercedes cars are driven more courteously than average and within the law.
But there are always exceptions.
If I had to stick my neck out, drivers of smaller cars tend to be more reckless and take a greater number of risks. Drivers of fast cars like Ferrari and Maseratis tend to be be excellent in my experience.

I drive a fair bit and I'm not just confined to Norfolk:o

2000 miles last week in limo, MPV and on a motorbike. My observations are:
Vehicle most likley to pass you on the motorway: Mercedes Sprinter
Vehicle most excempt from speed limits: Saab
Worst driven: Audi A4 and BMW 3 series.

Is it just me?:dk:

I'm very good when I drive to work in the mornings down the A roads. On the other hand I can be a little "bad/just a touch naughty" whilst giving it some on the way home down the motorway. Fuel gauge and rev counter moving in opposite directions! Thank God they have lifted the road works at last.

I spend all day every day on the roads as a professional driver, I drive trucks and vans, my usual main tool of the working day is a 2007 Euro4 lwb sprinter.

I will echo some sentiments here that the 'bad' drivers tend to be the ones who care less about any potential damage to the motor they are driving, these tend to be reps and 'banger' drivers. As regards the MB drivers being 'bad', i would suggest that you take a look at the type of MB in question... newer C & E class can fall into this stereotype as its usually the case that these cars are company 'status' waggons (look at me - i made +25% targets last year so now i get a Merc) whereas the older Mercs are usually privately owned and cherished by their owners.
In defence of the tailgateing white van man, tailgateing in a car is bad news because you can only really see the car in front.. the elevated drivers position in a large van provides excellent vision and you can see over the top of the car in front..and the car in front of that and so on... its rare you will see a van tailgating another van and in all the miles i drive every week, its fair to say that i seldom see a van involved in a front end collision but often see them with a car planted in the back.
Im not defending tailgating in any way but am trying to dispel a myth that van drivers do it to 'bully' other road users, its just a question of vision, they have a much better view of the road than car drivers and can see events unfolding long before the driver of a car 3,4,5 positions in front can.

That might be the case, but you must be aware of how the car driver feels being tailgated. He doesn't care that you can see that far ahead. Do all 4x4 drivers tailgate.? Antway, even if you can see that far ahead why do you need to sit on the car's bumper? I say you but I mean tailgating white van man, ( which may not be you ).

A4 "S-line" (Read- Wheezy TDi), often black. Debadged.
A3 "S-line" (Read- Wheezy TDi), often black. Debadged.

Are, IMHO, the new 3-series. Invariably "Thrusting young sales executives" driving like muppets.

Having said that, all sorts of cars were happily overtaking the MARKED Vito I was in, bringing a high-risk prisoner back from London the other night. And we were travelling at a reasonable "Margin of error" speed too, to avoid becoming a rolling roadblock... :wallbash:

they think I am crackers as I walk almost halfway across the island to work most days. Its quite pleasant and talks about an hour.

The walk back appears to include a short stop off at the L'orangerie. Generally for liquid refeshement, although last night it seemed to include some solid sustinance too.

I have now started exagerating the mileage round here so I can join in knowing how far things are and why the car is a must. I must walk 12000miles to work now.

If you walk to work then you must by definition be one of the few good drivers on the island that is according to my little red book' The Thoughts of Moi Version III volume I
