I have spotted an E Class and a C Class both factory fitted with a set of Hankook tyres rather than a premium brand. Wonder if this just a cost cutting exercise.

I note that my daughters Corsa came with a set of Premium brand tyres.

Hankook tyres are very good and a massive name in the states.

It's all about costs and what meets the manufacturer's criteria and little to do with what customers think. As for the brand itself I used them and don't recall performance issues. Being candid, buying a new M-B I would like to see the likes Conti's as standard equipment, just because...

No doubt MB cars fitted with fuel efficient tyres when getting their Co2 rating and then fitted with the best grip tyres when the motoring press get their hands on new models.

I suspect Joe Public might just get the tyre MB gets the best deal on.

I'd rather have Hankooks than Contis. It speaks volumes when the fleet manager would rather pay more elsewhere than fit his own product.

Strangely they only became good enough after Petronas started giving lots of money to the F1 team. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

:D Not at all. Mobil 1 was the choice of MB/Mc Claren not so long ago so something must have changed for Petronas to become their preferred supplier.;)

Whatever, their oil meets the required 229.5 standard for road cars, its supplied to my indy by Mercedes and I've not heard of any problems with engines using Petronas.

hasn't been that long ...

No it hasn't. But I'm happy enough in the knowledge the oil meets MB 's spec, its approved by AMG, no F1 Petronas MB has had an engine failure during a race that I can recall, and my indy is confident enough in the product to use it for oil changes.

Hankook tyres and Petronas oils? I hope this isn't a repeat of the Schrempp era.

Used that petronas oil once on my OM642 and will never again. Reverted back to Mobil1 and my car runs much smoother
