MB factory fitting Hankook tyres

It's them placebos again, they're everywhere!

Had Hankooks on a kit car.. and much to my delight and surprise, it blew away the kit car company's demo car (driven by kit car company man, not a customer) at Donnington..... in the corners. I'm currently using Khumos on my C43, because that's what were on it when I got it and they're nowhere near wearing out yet. Hankooks will be on the list for the next set of boots.

Will the Hankooks be MO spec ?

If you order Hankook from Tyreleader, they are classed as Premium tyres along with Michelin/Goodyear/Continental etc. No mention of MO on their webpage.

It may be of interest to note that Dunaújváros [ on the Danube] is a mere 80 kilometres---[ 1 hour] journey from Kecskemét also in Hungary- where co-incidentally Mercedes manufacture the new A CLASS, B CLASS, GLA and CLA-----serendipitous congruity? I think not. ;)

Hankooks were fitted to the E220 I had during my recent warranty repairs, car was supplied via Europcar.

Hardly any miles on the car so guessing that's what it came with from the factory.

Seemed pretty decent for the 500 or so miles I had the car.

My C Class came with Conti's but I would not have been put out if they were Hankook. Had them on new cars in the past and never had any issues with them.

I noticed this on a friends e220 cdi about a year ago. They are marked as MO, so they must be made to the spec given by MB.

Would that be the Schrempp "scrimp" era...

He was the chief executive that stood up and said that Mercedes was "spending too much money on quality".

Which I've always thought was like Ferrari's chief executive standing up and saying "We're spending too much money on performance"...

Tyre snobbery is slowly disappearing. Tyres have improved massively over the last couple of decades.

I think most of us would be more than satisfied with any of the mid range tyres in real world use. I just put uniroyals on one of my cars (replacing continentals) and they seem very very good.

Couldn't agree more. I wouldn't use the bottom end budgets, as they are just too weak for the load of most Mercedes but Brands like Falken, Khumo, Firestone, Hankook are good tyres and represent a balance of price and quality.

I agree too. Had Falkens on my 350z and they were great. Way better than the stock Bridgestones that came on it.

Also the Audi A3 Quattro i had was a far nicer place to be on the Dunlop tyres which replaced the originals, actually that was also Bridgstones!! Ultimately, when you drove the wheels off it (and i mean REALLY push it) you could feel the stiffness of the bridgestones but for 98% of the time it made no difference.

They are not called Brickstones by many for nothing!! ;)

Talking about Bridgestone's, their Turanza T001's I found to be a great balance between performance and cost if a little noisy but that's a small criticism overall.

Surprised too to find Hankook's on my new E220 CDI. Slightly slimmer than the last model's Contis. Suspect this is aimed at cost saving and reducing CO2 rating. We shall see how they last.

Had them on my coupe all of them cracked through the tread line.
Ok when i first got them but how quickly they broke down would steer me clear in future.
