Just had look at the tyres on my new C Class sport. The tyres fitted are Continental Sport Contact 5 MO sized at 225/50 R17 W which according to the company's website are run flats.
Now didn't I read somewhere that MB had stopped supplying run flats? The tyres seem fine to me plus I have the reassurance of run flat when I have no spare wheel.
I also note that the MO means recommended by Mercedes and is rated:
Rolling Resistance(A-G)
C Grade – Above average fuel efficient tyre but still several percent below that of a grade A tyre.
Wet Grip(A-G)
B Grade – Nearly the best quality tyres to stop in the wet, stopping only 3m more than a grade A tyre but on average 15m shorter than a car on grade G tyres (on a wet road when braking from 50mph – testing according to regulation EC1222/2009)
Sound Wave(1-3)
2 Bars – Meets future EU noise limits
Noise(67-79 Db)
71 dB – Exterior noise level measured in decibels (dB). The lower the exterior noise level the better the environment near busy roads.
SSR denotes recommended by BMW but the economy rating is E for the tyre so there must be some differences in the compound. Also the SSR is around £17 more expensive at Halfords.
