Just noticed the CLS`s front alloys are corroding on the inside of the spokes, its actually quite bad cant understand why I have not noticed before.

Has anyone had experience of MB covering this, my car is 3 years and 4 months and 25k

Sorry if this should be in wheels but Im after a wider opinion

Whatever the age it is worth taking it to the Dealer and complaining. Inside or out they shouldn't corrode.

I'm told that those parts which are normally visible even exposed to the toughest conditions, should not corrode. Wheels replaced under warranty is not uncommon.
I'm going in to the dealers tomorrow to have the chrome exhaust trims replaced under warranty as agreed on my ML:thumb:

Mine are pretty bad in certain areas. I'll post some pics soon. I think I may be in with a chance of getting them replaced.

Here are a few pictures of my wheels.

I really like these wheels and from a distance they look reasonable.

But close up they are all showing this kind of corrosion in the same places.

I spoke with my MB dealer today and they will photograph and send to HQ for an answer.

I'll report on the outcome.

I had similar corrosion to Ringway on the 17" sport alloys on my 2004/54 C270.....went to Dealers in May 2009 and pointed this out..they took photos and sent off to MB head office....initally MB refused to do anything as they claimed that the wheels were "excessively kerbed"......when I sent my own photos showing that there was hardly any kerbing they agreed to replace all the wheels providing that I contributed 10% (in the end this came to around £80)....I felt this was a good compromise....

My wheels are all-but free of kerb damage, but I would argue that even if they were kerbed it would make no difference to the corroded areas on my wheels.

Perhaps I should send my own images too. :thumb:

My wheels were like yours...all but free of kerb damage, thats why I was confident in pressing my claim for corrosion....10% contribution at the end of the day was an acceptable compromise to me.

Yep. I'd settle for that. ;)

My c-class coupe had some blistering/bubbling of lacquer/paintwork,but no kerbing,so I took the car to the garage, with pics I took myself - I was led to believe that the success of the claim, seemed also to lie with the experience and effectiveness of the person handling the claim - one dealership I approached, did not fill me with confidence in that respect - the other seemed more sure footed and determined and I got a result - car was just over its three year warranty.

I took it in on sat to MB Chester and the guy seemed genuinely surprised they were starting to peel and said he would forward a claim also they will see if MB will cover the duff rear parking sensor - Im impressed.

Mercedes do seem to be pretty good as far as changing wheels under warranty but I'm betting that they curse the day owners got to use the internet to talk about it....must be costing them a fortune.

btw, there is another thread in the 'wheels' section concerning warranty replacements http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/wheels-tyres/65984-corroding-alloys.html

Ive been offered 50% ie for £450 I can have 2 new wheels inc labour, Im not sure how good this is though, do i get to keep the old ones ? must ask.

One of the reverse sensors has gone and its 50% again at £98.27 to get done.

Should I have another go at MB cust service over the wheels ? car is 3 years 4 months old

You could get all four of your wheels stripped down and repainted for less than £450

What if the other two go the same way ?

There must be a common factor when so many wheels corrode on so many different rim styles.

I'd opt for a refinish elsewhere.

.

Agree, or i could px it with the corrosion - I will have another go at MB and make my mind up there.

Its mad cos MB Chester know Im after a new car and they just dont seem rectumed to either tempt me in to anything or mollycoddle me a bit :(

I assume that on that car it's FMBSH. If so, 50% contribution for a rear parking sensor that packed up just 16 weeks outside warranty seems poor to me - I'd be looking for close to 100% on goodwill on that one - no way they can argue it's down to hard use, is there?!

On the same basis, if the alloys are un-kerbed I'd gently suggest to the dealer they go back to MB and try a bit harder, especially if they know you're looking for a new home for the thick end of £60k:)

They just dont seem bothered about selling me a new car, the other weekend when having the wheels photoed I was vulnerable and could have signed for a C63 given a decent PX and decent % rate - none were forthcoming, interest rate was a stupid 7% ish and px was less than any other offer and webuyanycar - madness

For that sort of money I would get the wheels refurbished by a reputable company...

MB wont let you keep the old wheels if you take up their offer.

Remarkable...and frustrating for you. On my visits to MB over the last year or so there has hardly been a buyer in the place, and on one visit in particular the sales staff were quite open about how little business they were doing. Perhaps the recession hasn't got to Liverpool yet - or is it all those footballers keeping them in business buying SLRs?

there can only be one reason - they are a bit stupid.
Wonder if the dealer principal is on here......
