MB Warranty On Corroded Alloys

Update: MB CS contacted Chester who said in April inspection (I paid for and prior to warranty end) no corrosion was reported or noticed  I didnt notice as the CLS has a mini valet every other week and I dont see into the wheels.

Not the support I would have expected to be honest .....

Sooo back onto MB CS today saying it was noticed start of August 4 months after inspection and do I have to have them inspected by a 3rd party to ascertain the level of corrosion is older than 4 months and why are you giving me such a hard time when lots of MB car club members have had far more generous offers.

MB CS man agreed with me and will approach MB and advise - this is more hassle than it should be and I know car cost shouldnt be a factor but this is a £70k product that should be better represented at dealer level (remember this is the dealer that doesnt want to sell me a new car with lousy px and high APR) :wallbash:

This happened on my GS430 Lex and the wheels were swapped before I finished saying corrosion ....

Pity you cannot keep the car and change the Dealer eh?

Good luck keep pressing and threaten to write to MB HQ.;)

I wrote to MB MK re the C43 rust and hey presto got a phone call next day. When would it be convenient Sir to book your car in.

You still got 'goodwill' on a W202, thats good going:thumb:

I might try and get my wheels done then on a W203.

Well 50% is the best they will do so Im getting two new wheels for £466.22 - one part of me says accept it, the other says write to them but lifes too short.

IF I did write to them would it be to contest the wheels being for for purpose ?

I would fight it with HQ, tell local Dealer first that you are going to contest the logic of this with HQ on a three year old car, as they might change their mind when you say this.

A friend of mine improved his 50% offer to ALL wheels after debate.

just have them refurbed and dont waste your time with MB. They obviously cant see further than the end of their noses.

I actually want the two new wheels as Im keeping it for at least 12 months now, one wheel has too many balance weights on it for my liking. Im annoyed, disappointed and a bit p`d off but I have already decided its an Audi next and this experience will stick in my mind especially comparing it to the Lexus (also out of warranty) in which the wheels were swapped without quibble.

However if the new CLS is as innovative as this one was then I may eat my words .....

Not enough people in this country complain. Why should you put up with shoddy workmanship, these company's rely on people not complaining and they get away with murder.

I have had no end of trouble with those kind of 'lacquered polished metal' wheels on Audis, VW and Mercedes - they all corrode and I have no idea why they even sell them. I always spec 'painted silver' wheels as they are much easier to refurb.

I had a VW wheel refurbed by Lepsons and on first look it was a great job. Trouble is they take about 5mm off the face of the wheel to get back the polished look. Just after a year (outside their warranty) the lacquer started to lift and corrode as before. Audi said it was wheel cleaner causing their wheels to corrode - I showed them that attack from the outside would not cause bubbles and corrosion under the lacquer but they were having none of it and refused to reaplce them.

Audi? you must be joking! My two experiences of the useless arrogant fekkers is a cancelled RS4 when I was in a rage and telling the sales director to shove his RS6 up his jacksie (the car did not turn up for two agreed test drive appointments).

Buy a Skoda......

Hey Simon, hows the CLK going? still pleased with it? :)
I had the rain sensor re programmed and the seat belt presenter sensor switches replaced passaenger side this month on my CLK...

They just dont seem bothered about selling me a new car, the other weekend when having the wheels photoed I was vulnerable and could have signed for a C63 given a decent PX and decent % rate - none were forthcoming, interest rate was a stupid 7% ish and px was less than any other offer and webuyanycar - madness
Surprise, surprise MB Chester can't be bothered getting off their lazy asses to assist the customer and/or sell some cars. Sorry to be so negative but my perceptions of this dealership remain low:wallbash:

life is too short for a couple of hundred quid on a £70k car - hence my comment about MB not being able to see beyond the end of their noses.

I'm basically a salesman although I have more fancy job title and every time I go to MB Chester I'm amazed at how crap the experience is. I'm a serious looking 50ish company director (with an unlimited budget if I felt like it) yet they manage to make me feel like I'm inconveniencing them. And what is it with the staff there, in its entirety, ignoring you? Unbelievably rude.

I suppose the upside is that it doesn't affect many people - in the 4 years I've been going there I've rarely seen anyone else in the showroom.

When I was looking for wheels, the wheel dealers I spoke to ALL said that for high mileage use do not even consider a polished finish wheel. My new set of AEZ wheels cost half of an MB set and the finish is excellent (was actually perfect until yesterday... oops...) Time will tell (about 6 mths) if they're better than the old ones.

At 3yrs and 3months MB replaced my two front alloys, both had pin ***** corrosion on the spokes.
The dealer took some pictures and a couple of days later phoned to say MB had authorised the swap.
I wouldn't pay £450 for two new wheels. Get them refurbished. As for the weights, I'd bet it's the tyre that is causing the imbalance.

Even more reason for MB to correct there bad workmanship. You might expect that on £15,000 car, in fact you don't hear of there wheels corroding.

corrosion

Always try the Mercedes dealership for warranty as we got a new set of Alloy on a car that was 4 1/2 years old
