mCar UMI

Are there four options? (default, normal, speech, surround)
Which one do you prefer?

With this MCar kit, I take it all the steering wheel controls work with it? Can you use the steering wheel to skip tracks while using A2DP?

Also does all the Telephone info appear in the cluster on the phone page? And can you access your phone book etc in the cluster?

This depends from your phone actually, which avrcp profile (if at all) it supports
My iPhone 4S supports 1.3 i think (as for the module, in the specs i just see avrcp is supported)

As for the other questions, without having it installed yet: steering controls do work, yes it does appear on the cluster (coding if option is not fitted), yes you should be able to access the phonebook from the cluster (by the time you can on the comand unit)

Richard - is that correct that the OK button does not send anything? Looking at my command manual {pages 56 and 57} it shows that both CD selection and track selection can be chosen by the OK button? So still don’t quite understand why this could not work with mCar?

There are 3 options that you can choose as the "Default Setting" (at least on NTG1)

Standard
Speech
Logic 7

You may be confusing the "Default" heading from the manual as an option.

For the mCar I use Standard and tend to listen fairly loud
For Radio I tend to listen at a much lower level so actual prefer Logic 7
For DVD I choose Logic 7

It is a great bit of kit!

Different head units behave differently, i.e OK is not sent as OK to the CDC, OK sends different things on different head units and some head units it doesnt send anything at all

Telephone appears identical to MB phone system, so phone books upload, visible in cluster (once cluster is coded for phone so that TEL menu appears there and steering wheel controls enabled).

Skip tracks is more complicated - the buttons on steering wheel do the same as the << and >> buttons on the head unit.

When you select CD6, it takes the bluetooth music, however there is a set of menus under CD6 which are selected with the << and >> buttons. One of the menus under there when selected makes the << and >> do track skip and then the steering wheel buttons will do the same.

One of the changes that is coming is that the Audio-20/Audio-50 will always do that on CD6 since they don't support CD text so the normal menus under CD6 are useless.

Mercedes do not display the track info from a CD changer on the instrument cluster display (they just show the track number), so you won't see the track info on the cluster display, just a track number. Of course the track name is shown on COMAND screen. And as I said above Audio-20/Audio-50 do not show CD text, so no track name.

Thanks for the clarification, it is a minor issue anyway and does not detract from the enjoyment :thumb:

Yes you are right, my experience till now was limited to the manual :)
Nice thing that you can have an individual setting in CD or AUX or FM/AM etc. :)

Hi Richard,

Any idea on an approximate release date for the DAB unit? I noticed Rishtec mentioned Q4 2011.

Hi Richard,

Im hearing early next year, probably just before April.

A member here is beta testing it in his car.

How can i change mic gain and other options under settings?

Download the config file for your vehicle onto your PC from Comand Online Ltd :: mCar Installation, Manuals & Updates

Change the parameters after the :

The parameter after the 2: is the microphone volume
The parameter after the 3: is the Text to speech volume
The parameter after the 4: configures what kind of head unit it is connected to, so leave that alone ...

Cheers

Richard

Richard / Alfie, do you know how (if), the DAB unit will interface with the Mcar unit? I saw the post about the units being from two different companies so it would be unlikely for the two to be combined.

It wont. This is because both units pretend to be CD changers, and Merc head units (unlike Audi as I saw today) only support 1 CD changer. (Although, it must be said, i've never tried 2 CD changers to see what would happen)

The DAB unit will have an AUX input so as to allow an iPod connection, but no control functions.

Richard

Thanks Richard, so it would have to be one or the other for command integration?

Haven't heard of any!

Richard
