Mechanic says pressing one button in your car will 'double' the engine life

On my 204 c180 it's switched off each and every time -

He's not differentiating the wear caused when starting a car from cold (lots) for that caused when re-starting a car when it's reached operating temp (little to none).

Virtually fact free click bait!!...sure it might last fractionally longer.....but double....nah! Sure most wear is after starting.....but after cold starting so it does not apply to Stop/Start which only works when the engine is up to temp. these car have been around ages now.....not seen much evidence to show them failing just because of the S/S.

When I was taxiing in the evenings I'd always turn my engine off outside houses whilst waiting to save neighbours the noise, so I'd start and stop the car to to 40 times an evening , this all before stop start systems and always managed to do 250-300 000 miles n the car.

Would have done 499k had you not.

Ah, but it wasn't the mileage that made me scrap the car but it's age! My licencing borough only allows taxis to go up to a certain age then they have to come off licence 😥

Thing is your engine doesn't crank over when using stop start , like it does first start of the day , it always stops in a position so the engine fires instantly, controlled by the crank and cam sensors. I personally don't use it , unless in my head I know I'm going to be stopped for quite some time..

Scotty Kilmer! He's a funny guy. Saw his videos on YouTube. It's more light entertainment than serious car mechanics. I do like the guy, even if he talks crap sometimes.

Here's some of his typical rambling:

^ Can't stand the guy. 10 seconds in and I want to switch him off.
He has to shout to make his point.
And for a so called mechanic some of the stuff he spouts about Mercedes AMG's is laughable.

I knew it'd be Kilmer without even opening the article. He's a shit-pedalling sensationalist hack who's stuck in the mid-90s dreaming of Camrys and Accords.
