I`ve just been checking my fuses because my drivers seat has stopped working (1999 clk) found a melted 40 amp fuse and casing in the boot compartment. Has anyone come across this before and a cause? Will it affect my drivers seat? Thanks

Check the wiring under the seat hasn't rubbed through the insulation.

40 amp seems an awful lot of fuse for a seat ?

Mine have 3 individual fuses per seat and a main fuse.

IIRC the individual fuses are 2.5A which means total draw per seat should be no more than 7A ?

I bet someone has replaced a blown fuse with a much higher rated one as they had it laying about and didnt have the correct one. And instead of blowing as it is meant to , it's just melted.

There should be a fuse diagram saying what rating for what fuse on the lid of the fuse box.

Agree with Howard, mine blew a few fuses for a while as the motor kept sticking and overheating, in the end i needed to clean up the seat rails and a new motor.

You probably have the same seat issues, and somebody stuck a 40.amp fuse in to keep it working, but eventually it has ended up melting.
