It really is a cracking car, i never thought too much of them, but its surpassed my expectations i must say.

Just one little thing however ....

Engine management light has come on

Ok so its a P0172 error, System too Rich (Bank 1) cheked via my handy diagnostic tool.

So we know where to firstly look at least.

On a 21k miler, whats the odds the MAF or the O2 Lambda sensor is gone kaput?

Where should i be looking for a vacumn leak in this sort of troubleshooting scenario?

I erased the code to see if it came back, after 25 odd miles it came back, ive erased it again just to see what happens again, probably the same i suspect.

if im honest i reckon its a vac leak somewhere that would be my first port of call, but as mentioned wouldnt know where to start looking. (cant hear any hissing noises under there at the mo)

Cheers

Billy.

It would be good to get some live running data to see how the car is running but for that you would need a better diagnostic system. For a nice 21k miler its worth doing before you start replacing components. e.g.if the coolant temp sensor is broken the fuel injection system will think the engine is cold and richen the mixture.

For sure grob's, spoke to my indy tonight who does my 124 work and he's going to stick it on STAR.

This should make more sense of the matter. He thinks too its a probable leak but lets wait and see.

Update:

Just a little update on the P0172.

Its a blooming chaffed up rubber hose that runs from the throttle body into the engine. Quite in an awkward position too.

Really is bad engineeing as it looks like its in a position that looks cramped and subject to quite a bit of heat etc resulting in its failure.

Indy mentioned that this is a VERY common problem, however a good thing is the part number for the pipe has been superseded from the original. Hopefully its made from a tougher more better material.

Ive also decided to go all out and start the service under my ownership from scratch.

It had an oil and filter service beginning of Nov from records, but im going fresh. Get the car back on Friday.

Replace chaffed pipe
Brake pads front/rear
Brake disks front/rear
Brake sensors
New brake fluid
Oil change
Oil filter change
Fuel filter change

Spark plug change
Gear box ATF oil change
Gear box filter change
Gear box gasket
Coolant flush
Air filter
Pollen filter
Tighten wheel bearings
Tighten footbrake
Once all done stick back on STAR, re-read codes and make sure everything is in tip top.

Costing a fair bit but I'm geting the maintanence under my ownership ball rolling.

...At least i know its all been taken care of early on at 21k. Duly maintenance thereafter will be easier to handle. :thumb:

You set a very high bar Billy:thumb:

SWMBO may not appreciate it but that car will look after her. Have you had the alternator function and battery condition checked out or will STAR do that.

It's always good to start from scratch, I always do that with my cars. That way you know it's been done properly assuming you don't know the seller. Nice car, enjoy!

Thanks mate,

Yes we checked that out last night on STAR and both batt and alt are all rosy. There were some stored codes in there which raised some eyebrows but nothing to raise alarm bells. We just erased them, who knows how long they were on there for?

No i didnt know the seller, but we went through the last service invoice and checked what we could that was said that had been replaced. Turns out the seller wasnt telling any porkies as the bits mentioned on the invoice were indeed replaced.

Only thing i couldnt check was the oil condition, theres no dipstick!

update 2:

A little thread revival:

The Mrs. C200k coupe has been running brilliantly.

Just one thing, if anyone experiences a 'Transit like rattle' when they first switch the on car from cold/turning full lock - It will be the alternator pulley.

These things seize up as the clutch mechanism bearing inside the pulley prevents the free movment. Changed this a couple months back and no rattle.

Mileage now just hit 30k

Got a few exterior enchantments planned but nothing too much. :thumb:
