Hi

How easy is it to remove cam cover? Does the injectors need to come out first

Injs have to come out. Its a straightforward job. Why r u removing it ?

There is a leak of an injector squirting upwards, ive only just got van coz im trade but someones run it like this and top of vam cover is thick with black tar like substance, any ideas? Is that the diesel build up?

Search for black death or injector leaks, you will have reading for the day about the problem

Well I could be lucky, it seems the bolt holding down the injector is out, the bolt looks good, hoping it has just worked its way out not tightened, see the picture of the top of the cam cover, my problem is the 2 at the back are cover also, so getting to that bolt could be a problem, the 2 nd injector is ready to pull out but my dilemma is cleaning the are up to put the injector back, I don't want any fragements dropiing into the piston barrel, is this a brain surgery type operation? if I could get the 2nd injector back in, what is the best solution to pour over the top so I can jet wash it of in stages?

Sadly the bolt threads can strip quite easily. Repairs need a helicoil or something. But maybe you are lucky. I just chipped all of mine away and scraped it clean, then washed the cover off because i broke it ..

Are the bolts fixed to the cylinder head? or just the cam cover? I think this has stripped, what is the best course of action? what is an helicoil? any chance boreing new thread with tap and dye?

Sorry , yes they do. the rocker cover is only a few mm thick. The helicoil allows you to tap the head then insert the helicoil and then you are left with the right size hole. I have never used so i cannot really advise on their use. I think thats the best option

I advise caution with drilling etc. as it is very close to water and oil galleries below the bolt hole. I mean REALLY close.

Well, my other question is what will clean off the black death? the othe back 2 injectors are coked in the stuff so cannot remove the injectors to take cover off?

..also is there any other alternative than helicoil? it seems this has been done before but failed again? how do i know what size helicoil to use
