Mercedes 218 CLS 63 or w204 C63?

Hi all. Looking to add another car to the collection. had a soft spot for the CLS 63 5.5 biturbo and the 204 C63. Already have the E55k which is a keeper. How do these symbols 3 cars differ in character / daily driving reliability etc. any advice?? Thanks.

The CLS 63 is lists similar in character to your E 55 so for that reason I’d go for the C 63 for some contrast - unless you already have a car with an M156 engine that is. If you’re building a collection I’d wait for a mint original example

The C218 CLS63 is a very fast car indeed, but the W204 C63 is a true classic (especially the pre-facelift). The C63 is the one that will make you go "Ah, so this is what it's all about!".

A 1993 prefacelift 124 coupe 300CE. 1993 preface lift 300D project I’m restoring, 2015 BMW 640d grancoupe with mods running approx 500hp / 950nm. 1992 Jaguar XJRS 6.0 V12. Expecting a W124 500E hopefully a prefacelift example in the near future..

Any reason you're in favour of the prefacelift over the facelift , I hear the mct on the FL shifts fast and the facelfit exterior design is sublime

If you're in the collecting mood then I think a c63 performance pack facelift + LSD is quite a car and if you can get an estate, man that's just the ultimate. Alternatively for a lot more money for similar car , the 507 edition and ofcourse there is a maniac black series but the price is eye watering

The CLS is even more special for a large grown up car, my bias for a big ass says try and get a shooting brake if one comes up for sale, or an estate 212 e63s if you want the ultimate family rwd sleeper

Both engines are amazing, I had a S 5.5 e63 and they hit up to 540 wheel horsepower stock, mine was doing 535whp at around 40k miles. The engine is a monster. The 6.2l in the 212 E class I have is around 520bhp and is very special so I imagine a w or s204 ppp or 507 will be brilliant as they're lighter.
A good test drive of each type will hopefully allow you to gel with one more than the other
