There seem to be more CL420's coming out of the woodwork

I have had an offer accepted in principle on a rather lovely looking black CL420 subject to MOT being carried out so crossing fingers nothing untoward is identified.

Well I jinxed myself with that.

Just heard that failed the MOT and unfortunately quite a bit of suspension work would need to be done so no longer cost effective. :wallbash:

That is a shame because I am ''chuffed to bits'' with mine. Fabulously ''long legged'' cruiser......keep looking.
Jay's sounds about right to me.......I paid £3250 for my 82k miles car and I have just spent £1500 bringing it right up to scratch so I am taking the view that I have effectively paid £4750 for one of the best coupe ever built.
Put into perspective Avantgarde have a ''stunning'' 42k miler at an asking price of £11k

Avantgarde have had that car for months and their prices are always hilarious.

£5k is about the right price for a good example in my view whether you pay that up front or you pay less and expect to end up having to bring the cost up to £5k.......I did the latter with my eyes wide open.
Avantgarde's will be worth more than £5k but not £11k.....split the difference and I think that would be about right.

It all depends on price, condition, miles and the market.

I am curious to know what you had to spend on yours since I had had extensive discussions with the seller and was told that all tip top.

An excellent CL500 with low miles and 98 is about 5500 tops. People can, and will, pay a premium to buy from a specialist but to each their own.

I just wish you could put a sedan front on them, I'd have one in a flash......

Lorinser did conversions like these in past. You may want to contact them.

My goodness, they've gone the otherway so it just might be possible......:):)

Most sellers claim tip top.

I paid £3250 privately......I do not do DIY......so Star Motors have carried out a vehicle inspection and have either done or had done on my behalf:

Replaced

Engine oil and filter
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
ATF
o/s/r window seal
Dash illumination bulbs
Wood trim on o/s/f door and bulb
o/s seat trim
o/s under panel trim
n/s/f seat adjustment bulb
Gearbox connector plug
Leaking power steering pipe
Boot illumination bulbs
n/s/f outer parking sensor
Various incidental clips, seals

Repair

Loose heat shield
wiring to o/s door mirror
Clean up and repaint wiper arms
Have their tame body shop attend to corrosion on the underside of the nearside door.....common problem apparently on this model.
Attend to a slightly lumpy idle

Have their tame detailer give the car a jolly good clean inside and out.....mid range detail.

Total £1500 and I am very satisfied that Star did me proud.....great service.

The car is now an absolute delight and although it is intended to be Mrs.B's car (I have the SL) I think I will be ''borrowing'' it quite often.

The thing to watch out for now will be the control arms!

For those miles, the colour and age, the price you paid was fair.

Glad to hear that you are happy with the car and they are great to drive. I've "been there done that" with one of my CL500's (the maximum speed they will do is 252kph GPS indicated and not a km more!) and so this one will be just be a runaround while I find a decent forced induction W220.

Remains only now to get one!
