Mercedes e63 W213 all good things thread

When it came out, it was the ultimate saloon / estate and it's still up there. The performance exhaust system is particularly good, it makes great sound and the crackles and pops are delightful. The interior, tech, exterior is all top notch. I'd want an estate with HUD, distronic and premium pack.

Just remember you only have a very small manufacturing window to pickup a car without the stifled downpipes - it really is the only thing i'd change on my car if money and MOT's were no object :D

Can I assume this info is on the must watch downpipe video...???
I don’t actually know, I’m going by my own experience having originally looked at a 2017 car with no OPF’s and buying a late 2018 car with them.

Wondering if we know the answers to these questions 🙂

Does the exhaust note change during 4 cylinder deactivation mode?

Is there a more noticeable exhaust note change with cars modded with downpipes and resonator delete during 4 cylinder deactivation?

Does anyone have any sound recordings how it sounds like?

What are the conditions required for the ecu to switch to 4 cylinders?

Can the 4 cylinder deactivation be switched off permanently?

Will there be any sort of uneven engine wear on higher mileage cars equipped with 4 cylinder deactivation feature?

Is the 4 cylinder deactivation featured in the C63 model or E63 only?

Not noticed the exhaust note change, slight change in tone from the engine of course.

Can sometimes be rather abrupt switching back to 8 cylinders.

From what I can tell, no more than about 25% throttle, usually has to be a flat road and/or continuous speed.

I don’t believe so, although I’ll stand to be corrected.

As far as I know, only the M177 LS2/E63/S got deactivation mode.

Thank you Sir, info very helpful 👍 🙂

I tried the 4 cylinder mode, found it very difficult to remain using it as a small amount of throttle brought back all eight. I would imagine that you would need a flat and fairly empty carriageway to get the full benefit. You need to be in comfort mode and have the eco switched on so simple to switch off when you start a journey.
I wouldn’t have thought that extra wear would be a problem, from what I have learned about the 4 cylinder mode is that it alternates between all eight cylinders.

Thank you Sir, I think you just answered important question. To switch off, you simple have it selected in sport or sport mode plus, maybe in manual mode too?🙂

The stop start will proably not operate, and the car will always use 1st gear rather than second gear in stationary traffic situations?

I saw the video below, looks like the camshaft is very complex, cylinders 2, 3, 5, 8 are probably the ones which deactivate? 🤔

That’s what I should have mentioned - once out of comfort mode it’s doesn’t operate at all. It’s worth having though, I don’t think I’d have managed 33mpg going to France and back without it.

That being said, you really do need long continuous running to get the most benefit from it - which is not really possible in the U.K.

33mpg figure is really good, that probably includes carrying a heavy load, baggages in the boot too👍🙂

Another video to add to collection 👍

I'm surprised at just how many of this model (W/S213) are finished with matte paintwork:confused:
Try as I might, I just can't get enthusiastic over a matte finish on any car, but after looking at these on AT for the past year, the number of cars for sale seems almost 50/50 with gloss paint finishes.
It's ruling out half of them for me before I even get to options and colours.

Interesting to hear him say that the car is closer to 700hp and 700tq than its official figures. It feels that fast to be fair!
Acid at MSL often remarked nearly every AMG that went on his dyno was reading above the quoted stock figures.
