Mercedes of Preston may make me defect

When I bought my first merc over the internet from Mercedes Benz of Carlisle I paid a 1000 deposit over the phone ..... the weekend I was due to pick it up I had some work to do at our static at Ribby Hall ...... so worked all day Saturday very hot weather.... got up Sunday went to boot ...no change of clothes upppps...arrived for new car in a less than appropriate way.... they did't know me from adam.... what fantastic customer service, would yu like a drink sir, how can we help ...right away as i first stepped through the door, rather smelly and covered in cement and soil. so with a bunch of flowers for the missus ...full tank of fuel . 2 new p6000 on the rear off i went very happy ...and the follow up customer service was just as good.

I have had this several times from both the parts and service departments at two different dealerships.

I assumed it was because I was a lowly C-Class owner but it looks like they treat us all equally badly.

You want to try it as an A class owner - that is appalling

My experience in purchaing current car is similar.

Phone dealer (not any one in particular) very eager to sell whats currently on the forecourt..none of which were what I wanted. All agrred to call when something meeting my spec appeared..none ever did even when they ended up with one on their forecourt. Guess its down to the way they are incentivised i.e sell some units & stock turnover, rather than on time spent mincing around trying to find a car that the punter may or may not buy.

Just an update. Went in to see Nick Grady (Dealer Principle) Who was devastated when he read this post. All sorts of apologies and they were real ones. I have been alive long enough to tell when some one is trying to wash the problem away. He has requested that I pass on to him Culpanos phone number so that he can apologize in person etc. I gathered from our lengthy discussion that the salesman will be "in between jobs" in the imminent future as this is not his first customer upset.

The owner of the company that I work for had been a loyal customer of the Mercedes brand (had the 500SEC, a CLK and a few other models over the years)for many years - until this year when he (and his wife) switched to Lexus, due to bad customer service from a MB dealer in the Wirral and Liverpool.

Maybe by the time my car is due for a service I will have calmed down enough to set foot back in the place (but I doubt it).

Out of interest, do MB normally send newsletters / magazines to people who buy new cars. I've not heard a thing from them since I collected my car in September. I guess they think they'll be wasting their time.

I've never bought a new MB and bought both mine from an independant dealer, but I still get the MB newsletter and offers through.
Must have got my details from when I had it serviced.

They do send them out, although I bought mine from a Main dealer if you request a brochure from the website you will get several things sent through every few months, 2 magazines that kinda thing - not bad actually!

Maybe a discount on the purchase price or a free service thrown in if Culpano buys from them now. :D ;)

Well as the Dealer is going to save one Salesmans wages and commission, it should give them a bit to play with..:D

If based on his commission and he treats all potential customers like this, then you might be lucky and get a plastic tax disc holder:eek:

I can't help wondering what damage this salesperson has done to the reputation of this dealership?

What a pity there is not better monitoring of front line employees. These folks are what will perhaps make, or break any business.

I sent an email to [email protected] and asked for the Mercedes magazine - I get it regularly now.

My local dealer also had an email newsletter, but I've not had that for some time (they were sending out the same one every wek anyway).

I can't say to much because I know this guy..and went on holiday with him last year..
Culpano, Is this the right one..?

If your mate told me to take my business elsewhere, I think I might just do that. :D

You're just fishing for compliments..... well tough cos "fins" aren't what they used to be

A service manager from Preston rang me and apologised on behalf of this salesman. The manager asked me to ring him personally to arrange future test drives of cars. Apparently the salesman in question has had letters of complaint written about him.
