hi all.

clearing out the garage i came across my hardtop stand from my long departed R129 SL500...
it is a fantastic bit of kit on castors and folds right down into a wee storage bag...
whats one of these worth? :dk: any ideas?

My brother is looking for something like this for his E36 BMW hard top. Might be interested in a deal if the price is right. Obviously a gamble for fitment so it will probably be an insulting offer to you in reality... Let me know if you come up with a value and want to part with it.

Original stands are not easy to find. My guess is that it would be worth around £150 Could be wrong.

Sadly, that's not an original stand but one which can easily be bought on eBay and as I know to my cost, will collapse under the weight of an R129 panoramic top.

You have been warned! Oh and they are about £49 new.

hi there.

thanks for the upbeat responce; unfortunately you are wrong on all 3 accounts...

my SL500 had the panoramic roof, and this came with the car i bought from Mercedes Benz dealer...also, i have been keeping tabs on ebay, and this version very, very seldom comes up.

thanks all for the other posts;)

I bought a folding aftermarket stand for mine two years ago. £89 if I remember rightly. It folds up small and packs into a bag which looks a lot neater than that one in the pic.

Just FYI

It looks like an original to me (I'm not going out to the garage to confirm) and as such I can confirm that it holds a panoramic roof very well.

They also come up as Wiesmann stands, which were oem. They vary on ebay, like everything, and there will be a wave of new SL buyers coming up. I have one, and they are a great piece of kit, particularly with stowage in mind.

Is this still available? Did you have a price in mind?

hi all.

sorry for the mega late reply; i'v not been back here for a wee while and forgot i had started a thread about this stand!

stand is still available as i had forgotten all about it again!

regards to price, i am open to offers, but realistic ones that were mentioned by the more informed on this thread...not the £30-40 mentioned by others! don't worry, i'm not greedy either and would love someone to get good use out of this at a fair price.

kind regards

iain

As I may have said

Looks the same to me.

You're right.
I have one, the two folding braces holding the whole thing together bend like a stick of liquorice. Wouldn't risk using the "mobile" facility single handed, I've bought a proper electric hoist and roof storage device.

you know, i don't bother posting on forums like this very often as you always have some pillock who likes the sound of their own typing fingers...have had a quick scan through your last 20 or so posts and everythings a negative with you 'bluebell'...how can you be bothered posting when you really could be listening to 'the smiths' in a dark room somewhere?

this IS an original supplied stand, it DOES take the weight of a panoramic roof ( as it did easily with mines about a decade ago for 3 years ) and 2nd hand version on ebay @ £46 does not equate that they were £49 new..please post the link showing the genuine new wiseman @ £49 new then pat yourself on the back.

thanks for helpful replies, and to those whom are interested.:thumb:

They were £249 new from MB a few years ago - about £199 from 3rd-party outlets. I had the folding copy (£80 on eBay) and a panoramic roof and it worked fine.

Spike if David doesnt want it, i would take it as we need one for our showroom.
