may just picture how a vertical movement of the throttle linkage is translated into a back and fore movement of the transmission control rod via some form of bell crank lever under the manifold. Closest I have found so far to answering this puzzle .:dk:

If I've read it correctly it is for idle stabilisation against applied loads, eg air con, alternator demand, etc, and is acting on - not from - the throttle linkage. It is apparently a feature of manual transmission cars also.

I think the control rod to the box is spurred of the linkage as it leaves the pedal. Pretty sure I saw that in on of your posted pics G!

Perhaps best to wait now to see if Charles's friend comes up with some photos of the linkage and /or manifold vacuum connection.

More likely to see a manifold photo from him as it can be described to him. Unless we have a linkage photo the chance of him finding it is slim!

Guess the best plan of attack for him is to try to trace it from the gearbox end to where it links to the throttle linkage ----- that might help narrow it down for a piccy? An inspection mirror and torch might prove useful here.
You could send him these to help him what to what to look for. :dk:

I shall be in touch with him when he returns from hols.

Meanwhile got my V5C for the car today. I leave the reg number as another surprise for the unveiling, but the car was first manufactured in 1970, was used overseas then registered here July 1971.

Not really Mr B!

Re the rod from throttle to box. I seem to recall a thread on the Engine part of the forum from someone enquiring how to achieve prompter gearshifts on their 230 (W123 or 124) and the conclusion was (I think Balge contributed) there was (threaded) adjustment between the rod and the pedal.
Different, car/engine/manifolding, but ostensibly the same control for the gearbox. My point here is should we be looking for an intermediate adjuster? I seem to recall there being one on my W123 and the outcome of said thread was to find it and fiddle with it as I recall.

I've been hunting through lots of sources, and can't find anything more definitive than the photos so far posted. Without something to visualise I fear the hunt through the parts box up in Norfolk is likely to be a problem.

Charles, A photo of what exactly are you after; engine, year, model, trans option, would be helpful. I'll see if there is one here I can get a picture of...or even the bits you need if you like. You never really know what's floating around in NZL unless you start asking....

It's the photo we can't seem to find! At some point something will turn up.

A few pointers.....

55s in rod and arm attached to box. 1.00 in, rod going forward under manifold. 2.20-2.30 carbs/manifold removed from engine and linkage gone. Around 2.30 bare side of engine block showing dipstick tube with vacuum pipe but no throttle to box linkage.
At the 1.00 mark is the clearest pic so far. Looks like it may connect with the throttle much further forward than hitherto supposed. The threaded adjustment is close to the box. In the vid, at 1.08 there's an engine bay shot showing throttle crosslinkage for LHD.

FINALLY! I think :dk:----- found a thread that shows the entire linkage-- and the picture is clearer now.

BULKHEAD ACCELERATOR PEDAL LINKAGE AND LIKELY POINT FOR A/T CONTROL ROD TO LINK IN?? [ automatic linkage still missing at this point]

AND FINALLY the automatic transmission bell crank attachment between the throttle pedal and the transmission control rod makes an appearance centre of picture-- it wasn't there before!

and another partial glimpse from the side? centre left of picture pressed steel bent arm just beside the multiyellow wires?

Summarising--- A/T gearbox control rod links to the throttle pedal linkage beside the bulkhead?? Throttle linkage itself runs under the manifolds forwards then upwards to above them then back then forwards again to the throttle body.

All Credit to OP New123 /Toby on the OZBENZ FORUM for some great pictures.

Bo**ocks having looked at my own pictures I am revising my interpretation.
I was thrown by the second last picture - but I now think that mystery assembly is just hanging there. I'm back to the gearbox control rod running parallel with the throttle pedal rod to the bell crank under the manifolds - can't see why there should be two there otherwise. does that slightly thicker rod run further back to the gearbox?

Lovely, thanks Graeme.

Just spotted on ebay.de - an auto box with all the linkages. Rather helpful!
