I have a aftermarket headunit in my clk 230 but my steering wheel volume doesn't work. My friend said that I need some sort of kit to get the volume buttons on the steering wheel to function with the aftermarket headunit.

Unfortunately for the headunit their is no manufacturer name :S, it's from China lool. But it works perfectly :).

And to show off heres my whip :D

There are not many stereo makers that supply the kit to allow you to do this, Kenwood seem to be the only ones that provide an interface, so I guess you are snookered.

Hi Guys

Just to pitch in with my question, w208 CLK Cab Audio 10 with bootchanger, would like to fit ipod comp system, would any one know if the boot changer would hook up to any 3rd party head unit. I don't mind fitting a double din unit, but don't want flashing lights or a blingy looking unit. Also would the steering wheel controls work, or would an interface be needed. Thanks in advance

I believe Alpine do the box of tricks to enable the steering wheel controls, but only certain models.

www.audio-10.com have a part where you can swap out the CD changer for an Ipod connector (so the headunit thinks the Ipod is the CD Changer - I think - from memory from a couple of weeks ago when I started on this - could be wrong)

Changing the head unit but keeping the CD changer is possible I was told (by a local ICE fitter) when I was looking at options for Ipoding an Audio 10

I would suggest looking on the other thread on Audio 10 swap on here as others are chipping in

I can confirm that you will not be able to take a no name import head unit and fit SWC to it for a merc - both the ICE guys and MB have confirmed that - hence I am going to a Kenwood system

Same problem, and I am also looking at the Kenwood DAB41U. Have any of you got any advice or thoughts? I understand that Connect 2 as well as Kenwood make a thing which will make the steering wheel buttons work. Has anybody tried the Kenwood KCA BT300 bluetooth adapter? My experience of these things so far is that they are never quite as good as they suggest, and I wondered if anybody has a bluetooth & iPod/iPhone setup which really works and doesn't make the car look like a mini-cab!
