Gave my beauty a good full service today and she feels brand new again. Not a bad 3hr job considering it's only my second time servicing a car. All parts came in at £90 that's oil,oil filter, fuel filter and 2 air filters. Very satisfying job and gives one peace of mind in that all is done and as it should. Would recommend anyone who wants to have a go themselves and save a fortune from using the dealership. Here are a few pictures

Those air cleaners should be re adapted using star!!!!

I don't think so mate coz car is pulling much stronger and I can feel a remarkable difference so I'm not sure what the STAR is going to do?

No problem. I'm only offering you a bit of advice! Procedure on the 642 engine is to re adapt the air cleaners to the ECM after replacement. Failure to do so can result in the MIL coming on!
Hopefully this won't happen for you

Thanks for the advice mate I'd heard that from a few people on here and also some who said they didn't need to have the STAR plugged in after filter change so I'll see how it goes in the next few days but as for today the car is driving like a brand new car with now issues "touchwood". Do you have the same engine yourself?

No I don't but in the early days of servicing the 642 lumps we were unaware of needing to re adapt the air cleaners and had a couple come back with MIL on.

But anyway well done with the service and glad she is a whole lot better :D

Just need to do my Cabin filter now I forgot to order one when I ordered the other bits. By the way would you have any idea why the oil was so BLACK like that? Is that normal coz the one I poured in was more light yellow/peach in colour

Well done, glad that it worked out okay for you. Filters looked pretty bad did you find changing them okay?

Also did you change the turbo inlet oil seal and clean the inlet port shut off motor, removing all the muck?

Yes I found removing the air filter boxes quite straight forward I just followed those steps in that guide you gave me and yes my filters were pretty much clogged with crap hence car wasn't breathing properly. Ya I cleaned the turbo inlet and the gave the seal a thorough clean. I do have a new orange seal that I had ordered but I didn't replace the old one because it looked good after the clean so I'll keep an eye on it and if I start noticing and leaks I'll just change it since it's a straight forward 10min job. So far the car feels brand new and I didn't get that MIL light that some say you do after a filter change. Am already looking forward to doing my next service next year as I found it very satisfying to do

My apologies to you regarding what I said last time about not needing the ECU readapted after the air filter boxes change. My merc tech came round to my house today to reset my SRS light with his star computer thing and yes it did show up as AIR FILTER CLOGGED when he ran the test. He then went on to reset and readapted them. He said its true that they have to be readapted ALL the time after filter change. £20 he charged to do that and reset the air boxes. I'm yet to take it for a spin and see if i can notice the difference. Thanks for your advice anyway

You are spot on mate, they do need to be readapted after change as my Tech came round here today with him Star software on his laptop and he readapted them as they said CLOGGED. Strange how I never got the MIL light
