When cold, the auto box is very sluggish, and seems to slip a lot, but once the car has done a few miles and warmed up, things seem to be ok.
Experience with torque converters on plant etc makes me think fluid shortage, as when the fluid has warmed it also expands slightly increasing the volume.
Now an exploration round the engine bay reveals what looks like a g/box dipstick tube close to the bulkhead on the o/s, but the cap on the top says ''MB workshop only'' , and theres no dipstick under the cap. Anyone know if this is the gearbox filler/dip stick tube, and what type and grade of oil the g/box uses? TIA.;)

Thanks DM, made a dipstick, around 10mm of fluid on the end. Got some MB fluid on its way, hopefully it will the cure the slippage:)

when checking auto gearbox oil does the car have to be in a certain gear and or running. when changing up the car will slip abit when warm but when cold its fine will low gearbox oil cause this?

gearbox slip too

My W202 also slips slightly when cold. Please let me know if topping up helps.

Cheers.

If that was cold 10mm is about right.
