ML 270 CDI mpg

Hi, I have a quick question, sorry if it has been covered before. I'm looking at buying a 2003 ML270 CDI Auto. The vendor claims he gets 47mpg on a motorway run, & 30mpg around town. Is this even possible?! I'd discounted a m class in my search due to fuel economy, so if this figure is realistic I may have to rethink.....!

Have not had one myself so could not quote from personal experience. 47 on a run he says. Down hill, wind behind him, 'appen. Perhaps high 30s on a run though.

In mine... 28 round town, 33 steady run, 30 with a heavy foot when opportunity/need arises or in a rush.

35mpg @ 55mph and super delicate inputs
31mpg @ 70mph and driving normally

Those figures sound ambitious at best, I've had my ML270 2003 for just over a couple of months and I would say 35 on a run would be the best you could hope for and 25-28 around town. The upside is they are nice old things to drive ;-)
