Can someone tell me where the chassis number is located on an ML on the ACTUAL chassis?.........i know that this info is found on a plate on the door pillar and also via a slot at the bottom of the windscreen but i assume that the actual chassis rail is also stamped (as the body is removable).... where is the stamp?

In the latest M CLASS the chassis number is stamped into the cross member under the 2nd row of seats. You might have to lift some carpeting to see it.

Thanks for that but the latest ML is now a monocoque (spelling?) body/chassis and therefore any stamping on the main bodyshell is adequate......Sorry, I didnt make clear that my question relates to the Earlier ML's which have a separate chassis to the body (held together by six bolts!)
The body is marked with the chassis number but surely the chassis should also be marked in its own right?.....i've had a look but cant see any stamping...

Sorry didnt realise it was the earlier model but should have guessed from the chassis bit. Did find this rather nice cutaway drawing of the latest model here. If you click on it you will get the larger image. http://www.modernoffroader.com/carcutaways/carcutawaymercedesbenzml500.html#
Not much help but thought it might cheer you up.:)
This is good site concerning the Tuscaloosa Alabamba site also. http://www.mbusi.com/
AND I bet this guy would know. http://www.whnet.com/4x4/index.html

Thanks for your response Graeme,
I eventually found it stamped into the side of the chassis rail on the off-side approximately below the drivers seat area.

Regards

Glad you found it. Could be useful to other ML owners in the future.
