 One day someone will come along and do a thesis on all the various service and breakdown options MB have offered over the years ! - but here is my problem and I hope the good members of this forum can help with some advise.
My car was registered in October 2005 ( a 55 plate) and since then,I have always had the car fully MB serviced at main dealers to maintain, what I believe is Mobilo cover - however,I was a little confused reading the MB main site recently,as this now appears to to apply now to cars registered after 1st April 2008. - Mobile Assist appears to cover vehicles registered between October 1998 and 31 December 2003 - :dk: So I appear to fall some where between these two dates - the original handbook mentions Mobilo for my car ????
It appears that Mobile Assist is very basic and would not all important recovery in the event of an accident - to this ends,I had previously paid an insurance company for a basic recovery package only, just to be sure  - now with insurance premiums rising - I do not want to buy unnecessary cover,I can ill afford. If I am now moved into the Mobile Assist camp - it appears that you can upgrade to something called 'Mobile Assist Premier' - this would provide the necessary recovery in the event of an accident,as well as technical breakdown cover - obviously one needs to know the price I guess - can anyone shine a light on this situation and what level of Mobilo/Mobile assist a 2005 registered MB falls in ????:dk:

Dont mobile assist cover your UPTO 4 year old car?

ask your insurance company if they can sort you breakdown cover?

My car is Dec 2005 - I use MB dealer for service.

Called out Mobilio - April 2009, In France September 2010 and last week in York.

Always came - and it is full cover so don't worry about it - you are covered.

As long as your car has MB service history at the right time mobilo in the UK is renewed until the next due service. As the car gets older some of the benefits may be lost but UK cover continues for sure. Our 8 yr old CLK and 6 yr old SLK are both still covered.

Poeple will be fighting over themselves to recover the car in the event of an accident - most dealers will give you a card with a number on to call in the event of an accident. Your insurance company will also be able to arrange it - they'll be glad you called them rather than involving an accident management company.

My biggest concern with Mobilo is that it doesn't cover punctures / wheel replacement. Normally, I'd happily change a wheel, but it could be my wife out in the car, or it could be dark, wet & windy motorway and I might not fancy doint it. You'd also be completely stuffed it you got two punctures.

On the other cars we have with extended manufacturer assistance cover (a Honda and a Mitsubishi, both extended by having a service at a franchised dealer) they both cover every eventuality.

It seems that there are indeed several MB 'Mobilo' schemes, depending on your car's date of registration. However they all cover recovery, and differ mainly in the details of additional benefits you are entitled to (e.g. pay for you to continue your journey by Taxi etc), and perhaps more crucially in the overall length of cover (e.g. 10 years).

I had to use Mobilo a month or so back for my 8 year old (July 2003) E Class. Front spring went so had instant lowered suspension. Limped car home and got it on drive. Contacted the MB garage explained what had happened and they said I should not drive it and as I had a full MB history to call Mobilo.

Did this and a transporter arrived at 8am following morning to collect car and take to my local dealer and a new E Class from Enterprise arrived which we had for 5 days. Cost of repair for new springs etc on front £350. No charge for collection or 5 days worth of car hire :D

So I was amazed by service I had expected not to have coverage on Mobilo so a big thumbs up :thumb: for Mobilo even on an 8 year old vehicle.

PS It is worth asking your household insurance company as well about Road side assistance cover. It was cheaper to get coverage on our house hold insurance than on our motor insurance. It also covers all residence in the house in any vehicle.

Plus some Business Card (i.e. Credit/Debit cards) have this included as a free feature, mine does anyway.

I must admit that while I do appreciate the Mobilo service, it would not be a consideration for me when it comes to servicing. There is a lot to be said for and against MB main dealer service, but the financial befit of Mobilo pales in comparison to the other costs involved, so for me it's a nice-to-have feature but not really something I would be taking into account when weighing the pros and cons of main dealer service.

As an example, you seem happy that you had a free hire car for the five days it took to replace the broken spring, but I suspect this would have been a while-u-wait job at Olly's (Black55).

or.. try this for a fresh option-

amazing value for money, and that too- not much money at all!

38 quid for you and the mrs... no strings at all....

Well, crucially, it depends on why you need recovery. Most of the schemes, as they get older, only cover mechanical or electrical breakdown.
