It would have Grav but they wanted £250 to paint my door rubbing strips black to match the car:(

You take 'em off and get the paint and I'll spray them. ;)

Its how to do the bumper tops without dismantling the bumpers.

Hi Alfie,

Some of the cars that members own however are works of art that appear on the outside to be just the 'bog standard' item.

John

At least nobody has (yet) owned up to illuminated washer jets, under car lighting or spinners.

Hi Alfie,
I hope you don't mind me using your very nice vehicle as an example for my question. I suppose we are talking sometimes about personalising a car rather than modifying it.

I am slowly coming round to the believe that everything that is specified on the order form when buying the vehicle new is 'standard'. Then as soon as you take delivery anything added would be a modification?? (perhaps)

If I had ordered my vehicle with all the AMG options they would be 'standard'? but if I stuck on an AMG badge, then the AMG badge would be a modification?

Boy what an awkward so and so, I'm turning out to be. Someone asks a sensible questionm and I am dissecting it. I am honestly not trying to be awkward, it has suddenly just become natural??

What about mudflaps? My mudflaps were stipulated on the order, but not put on until it got to the dealer?

I always thought modified cars were those with bigger engines, wheels, tyres and modified bodywork. Some of the cars that members own however are works of art that appear on the outside to be just the 'bog standard' item.

I would say modification is not just about putting extra bits on Mercedes, its also a lifestyle to be slightly different,I would guess that to find Mercedes exactly the same with the list of options available from the dealer a few and far between ,but to put your personal touch on something that you consider to be near perfect and make it more personal is a big part of modding as well..... you have thought about the mod, discussed it with friends ,researched the mod ,taken the part or parts ,dismantled the bits and become more knowledgeable in the process and fitted it correctly giving the modder a great deal of satisfaction and a bargain in the process.

me ive done sod all ...its standard so thats why like this forum for its knowledge....and i am not a modder or ever wil be strike that just noticed differant dust caps i got from the dealer :D

Got a pic? I could do with a laugh. :D

I think the exterior of ost mercs = perfection - i have done a few genuine merc only mods.

the only exception is now the engine - i have approached kleeman and a division of AMG am awaiting quotes - so still in keeping with the merc marque :)

Yes, I have!

Nothing much though...

SLK Evolution pedals
SLK alloy wheel centre caps (Blue & Chrome)
Ring Silver Enigma front indicator bulbs
Carbon fibre effect rear number plate frame
Carbon fibre effect lettering number plates
Boot lock cover cap

I think that's about it, as I say not much really as I prefer the stock factory look.

I suppose I have to admit to doing the following, although not a lot by some standards, but for me enough (till I win the Lottery ;) )

16 inch wheels (powder coated)
Alloy Pedals
Chrome heater rings
PIAA Exteme White Bulbs
Pioneer Mp3 Head unit
Pioneer Autodisk Changer

not sure if these count

Hard wired Road Angel
Navman iCN 510 sat nav

Mod's are cool

pity the bank manager doesn't agree :( :D

Of course they count! You're a Mod!

I've only done a few mods so far. The cosworth kit was already fitted when i bought the car.

Mods so far

Clear front and side indicators, updates the car no end
Avantgarde front grill, (not to sure about this TBH. A bit too much crome with the big 190 grille)
Stainles back box,
16" CLK alloys,(not fitted yet)

The only things that are'nt origional MB items are the grill, the front indicators, and the back box obviously. The side repeaters are from a late model W124. I tried the chepo ones from GSF but the quality and fit was so crap(they kept poping out  )so i ended up getting my money back and got them from the stealers.

I still have'nt got any club pedals though :o They are next on the list though

Right cheers to all that have voted and added there bits about there mods, it certainly makes for intersting reading. Most of you are on the money with what I was asking for, some i think where thinking mods as in the Boy racer mods. Not not at all these are Benz'z not Nova's or Saxo's.

SO, Let me clarify what I mean by mods, anything that was not standard when you bought the car. So if you did not have a AMG body and added it afterwards, if you have changed your alloys even if they are for say Benz alloys. If you have decided to let Brabus, MKB, Kleeman, Lorniser, AMG breathe some life to your cars engine, ECU, suspension, brakes, exhaust interior or even just added there alloys or grill or even there bodykits.

For examples look at the AMG(the bespoke stuff not the run of the mill factory AMG's), MKB, Brabus and the like's websites, but I have included hyperlinks to some examples of the more extreme mods below.

Brabus moded engine

Brabus rear

Brabus Front

MKB CLS front

MKB CLS side

MKB CLS rear

AMG Bespoke engine
