Modification Questions

Hi there

Just got myself a C43 :bannana: and have had a good look through the forum here and have found myself some mods that I want to carry out.

1. Colour coded door handles: I have the part numbers I need, just need to know where the best place to go for parts is and if possible some tips for fitting
2. Noticed some people have a natty cupholder in that section right in front of the arm rest. Is this an MB part, where do I get one from?
3. Auto dimming rear view mirror, found the fitting instuctions, just need best place to source parts.

Cup holder is a MB part.

I would say you need to add an Avantgarde grill to to finish the exterior off nicely IMO.

We would love to see some pics, details of options etc, not too many C43's on here!

Get the door handles from the stealership, they might tell you they won't fit or some other story, if they give you any hassle I could order them from my local stealership for you. What colour is your car? It needs to be a facelift W210 colour for this to be a cheap mod. You won't be ordering the front door handle end-piece will you, if you're going to have that painted by a bodyshop then you might as well give them the other handles and let them swap them for you, they will have done it loads of times before and probably won't charge you for it. I got a quote of £25 to paint the front end-pieces. Seems a shame really as they're such small parts!

stealership, B6 692 0102, assumes you have the armrest (which in a c43 I would hope so!)

Easiest place to get parts from is the stealership IMHO, but you pay a premium sometimes for this. I just posted the part number of the black dimming RVM from my car in the electronics section, read that thread before doing anything.

Thanks for the info, will get on to MB for the Cup Holder.

C43s specs as follows: Xeons, Rain Sensitive Wipers.....and thats it I think! Other than that usual C43 stuff, heated seats, Two tone interior, carbon fibre trim. Also had an Alpine MP3 head unit fitted and my IPAQ wired in. Need to find some time to get my bluetooth gps power wired up too. Lots to do! Will post pics this evening once I get home....

Door Handle

Got the grill, was waiting for me when I got back from the office today will be fitting that tomorrow afternoon. As for the door handles, I got this from somewhere on the forum from one of Shudes posts

A 208 760 00 70 [####] : rear door handle : £14.11 +VAT
A 210 760 12 70 [####] : front door handle : £12.45 +VAT
A 210 766 03 56 [####] : rear end piece : £5.39 +VAT

You obviously need two of each. A total of £75.08 including VAT.

May be a silly question, but why are the rear and front door handle parts different? The rears seem to be from a W208 (CLK???) and the fron from a W210 (E Class??) Is that right, or are they both the same? Also, what colour code do I stick on the end for brilliant silver?

When the W208 CLK began production in 1997 it had painted door handles from day one, these handles use the same mechanisms and mouldings as the W202/W210, as it was the first model to have the painted handles they were A208* numbered. It wasn't until the W210 was facelifted in 2001 that there was a requirement for painted REAR door handles, and as it was the first to have that style of handle on the rear the part numbers are A210*. Easy eh?

Also, what colour code do I stick on the end for brilliant silver?

For brilliant silver (colour code 744):

A 208 760 00 70 9744 : rear door handle
A 210 760 12 70 9744 : front door handle
A 210 766 03 56 9744 : rear end piece

Should come to about £75 for a set, £25 to paint the front door handle end pieces leaves you with a total of about £100. Now ask the paintshop how much to paint all the handles and I bet they quote £150-200. Much cheaper to get factory pre-painted items in this case!

No - they are a little different - hence the part numbers, and price differences.

Avantgarde grille looks - great - your car is a nice colour too Here's what the handles will look like once you have got them fitted, and the front end pieces painted (ignore the chrome trim on mine . . .)
