Most reliable engines?

A good clean W124 6 pot diesel with modest mileage from a respected Merc specialist for 995. Yeah right!

Well it's the old story of what someone will pay for it, but prices of these W124 series models in good running order are only going one way. I think this is partly because one has to be a real dog before it cannot be brought back to life at a reasonable cost, unlike many others.

I have just bought a E300TD Estate with the 606 multivalve engine.

I have to say it is more comfortable than my W211 Estate.

I have had 8 W124's over the years this is the 9th but the first diesel. Lovely old skool ride...... hope it is as reliable as you say...

£1995 looks a good deal to me - carry on looking after it and you've got a car to outlive you!

Yes you can get one on ebay for £600, you might get lucky but chances are its going to need a heap of work.

I have a similar set of toys and would agree. The S211 is unbeatable for doing many hundreds of motorway miles in a day though IMO.

Fair observation, but provided you can form a clear estimate of what's needed (i.e. minimal bodywork/welding) I prefer the cheaper buy which requires more work. I have lots of time and enjoy fettling my cars, so not for everyone, but this way you know exactly what's been done and it's to your standards, not those of some (possible) bodger who jsut wants to have an MOT and a runner to move on.

My 112 (V6) engine is a doddle to service. 722,6 box easy to drain and i'v had no problems with the body at all.
