Most Rusty W210 I Ever Seen

i have had a LOT of W210's now and the early ones all rust at the above mentioned places... The facelift ones only tend to rust at the boot lock...

as you say it could be due to the fact that they are just older, but i suspect MB started fine tuning things later on...

I wonder what the prognosis is for the W211, have you had a chance to look underneath one ?

Druk posted this on another thread:

"I've got a Nov 03 W211 estate and cos of a lot of mud build-up took the rear arch liners out. No pics sorry but the early signs of rust starting on the inner steelwork notably where the liner is in contact and has movement. . Paint finish behind the (cardboard?) liners is primer + flash colour coat. No stonechip/underseal........zippo. I reckon another year without treatment would have seen real remedial work reqd."

Which might indicate MB have not learnt their lesson

I see a lot of W210's in my day to day work and I do think that the paintwork is better on the facelifted models

W211's rust in similar places, i.e boot release handle, bottom corners of doors etc... they are better than W210 but greater use of plastic masks the issue on the W211!

Just seen this thread, my Dad's W210 is in a worst state then the orignal link - last week it failed the MOT as the front suspension mount had completely failed due to rust aswell!

Funny though....on a fairly well maintained Japanese vehicle you don't see these problems at all. As well as my Merc, Ive owned several Honda's and there has never been as spot of rust on them.
