This doesn't work so well if they think you're local.
It does work if your're obviously Johnny Foreigner.
It also works for Johnny Foreigner with a maiden name or convoluted foreign name that is different on their UK and own nationality licences.
It becomes complex if the result involves insurance and you've declared yourself as having a UK licence.
If was in charge of our porous borders I'd have instigated a database years ago that meant that in order to drive in the UK you had to have registered your licence details against your passport on entry. And as a foreign national in the UK when obtaining a UK licence your passport would be used to cross reference with any foreign licences you held. When hiring a car as a foreigner the rental company would be responible for recording the passport details. If you commit a traffic offence as a foreigner points would be assigned to your passport via the database.
But this is the UK and we run a third world border comtrol system and an open doors free health system. So clearly I'm *not* in charge.
