MP3 or iPod in B180 SE

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a new B180 SE but I'm having difficulties finding out the MP3 capabilities. I understand that it comes with a AUX connector in the glove box. Presumably this is just a 3.5mm socket? Is it possible to control an iPod from the head unit (Audio 20)? I can't see any options in the brochure for pre-wiring for iPod.

Also, does the Audio 20 play MP3 CD's as standard? Or do I have to get the CD changer unit for this?

Many thanks.

You can add full IPOD control/support for about £250 or £180 if you do it yourself.

To get MP3 playback you will need a CD changer if its Cd based MP3's you want to play.

Thanks - is the £250 done at the dealers when I order it? Is the £180 DIY option fairly easy to do?

Are these available after the car has been bought and fairly easy to fit? Do the track names appear on the head unit/instrument cluster?

Thanks again....

£250 is what I charge to supply and fit one if we are supplying and fitting a comand at the same time. A dealer will charge you circa £350 +VAT

£180 is the price the dealer will charge you for the parts. Its a fairly easy retro fit providing you have the telephone pre-wire. If you dont have the pre-wire then the car will need coding with DAS to enable the steering wheel controls to actuate the IPOD.

The CD changer can be easily retro fitted also. These are readily available and the MP3 track names will be displayed on the comand. Cant comment of whether they will be displayed on an Audio20 instead of comand as I've never used/seen one.

Thanks again.

After being to a stealership today I'm totally confused - I had a look in the glove box of a B150 SE in the showroom and there was no aux input. I got directed around to the parts dept and he said that to connect an ipod I would need the ipod kit at £180 + 3 hours fitting = £500 + VAT (!). I asked him about the aux input but he didn't have a clue what I was on about.

I thought I'd read in a brochure somewhere that Aux input comes as standard - can anybody confirm this? (I know from past experience that salesmen will promise you anything only for it not to be on the car when it turns up).

Also, how much would a CD changer be to buy it myself?

Thanks again.

You have to add the aux input :-( the cable is about £20, the labour a load more ..
See http://www.mercupgrades.com retrofitting comand aps document - it talks about fitting aux input & CD changer aswell- B class is same as A class ..

3 hours fitting time on a B class is bullsh*t. it should only be about 1.5

You're forgetting the tea breaks and chit-chat :D

I don't believe this was factory standard in a B-Class. We don't have one on our B180 either. It was standard fitment in my E320 though :)

More like 45 minutes or a bit less if you know what you are doing.

Thanks everybody,

I'll have to have a think about the best way to do it - a CD changer may be the least messy option....

Thanks again.

I'll happily fit the IPOD kit for you for £50 if you get the parts and come to me!
