Hi I have just brought a spanking new E-Class 220 CDI SE Blue Efficacy and it says in the manual there is a Ipod connector and it will show up on screen (so i can change songs etc without using mu Ipod) but in the glove box it only appears to be an AUX connection no USB etc, and i can not get my songs to show up on screen or change songs on my interface.. Am I doing something wrong or the wrong cable etc?

Help please!

Cheers John

If you have the CD changer or one of the navigation units, then you will have a socket in the glovebox into which you can plug one of three cables to add USB support, iPod conection or an aux-input. If you have just the plain Audio 20 radio/CD then you don't get the Media Interface AFAIK.

As far as I know, the media interface comes as an option with the CD changer or Audio 50 or COMAND. If you have one of these, you will have an aux input it the glove box and you connect devices to it with a set of cables. I believe with the E Class, the cables come with the car. Theres one cable for an ipod, one for USB sticks and one for 3.5mm jacks.

A simple question for which I suspect there is no simple answer. What is the plug called that fits the media interface in the glove box with Comand? I see mercedes have an outragously expensive 3 cable connector set,but surely there are other suppliers who don't want to retire on the proceeds of one sale. They are very careful not to name the socket type.

The ipod interface is connected to the head unit via the MOST bus , but the 3.5 mm jack plug connects stright into the back of the head unit .

When the Media Interface ("UCI") came out it was a seperate option, then they packaged it (maybee only in UK) so that you got it if you ordered head unit with CD/DVD changer inbuilt, or not if you didnt.

Comand online sell retrofit kit for the W204 C class which will work fine in the new E class (and coupe) - however, MB have recently been delivering vehicles that don't need fibre optics with a cost reduced head unit without fibre optics ...

Your unit definetly will have fibre optic if it has the DAB tuner in it .. otherwise I think you will have to physically look ...
