C180 Classic Auto (97)
Hello,

I'm buying a C180 Classic (automatic) on Monday and thought it would be nice to join this club. It's an old 1997 model, 1.8 petrol with 71,000 miles but I'm expecting to get a lot of pleasure out of it.

I've had a Mercedes before, an old 190 D, but it was many years ago and I need to learn about the C180 Classic.

Where can I start to learn about this car?

By the way, my other car is a Rover 75 automatic which I love but I'm fed up with cooling system problems and head gasket failure.

Welcome.
Thats quite a low mileage.
Should prove to be to be an enjoyable and economical purchase.
What colour is it?

Hello,
It's metallic silver with grey interior. 2 previous owners. The engine looks very clean. I was quite surprised for such an old car.

Hi and welcome - I used to have a 75, mine was a 2.0 manual - apart from it throwing a cambelt at 9000 miles it was a good little car.

Lots of people have cooling issues with Rover K engines, I put my lack of issues down to driving them very hard, therefore warming them quickly...

Thanks everyone,

I'm picking the car up on Monday. First thing I want to sort out is a "proper" CD player. Does anyone know which machine was originally installed in the C180 classics in 1997 ?

Having said that, I might opt for a model which also plays MP3s.

Thanks,

I guess it may have been a Becker?

I find the best way to find out about cars is to look first and take apart later...

MP3 is also a great idea as you can fit so many songs on one disc, makes carrying loads of discs around getting damaged a thing of the past
