My ladys looking at a renault.....

lol........ok so maybe not going for the espace, will keep the thread open for any further views, thanks so far but im now swinging toward maybe galaxy or vw or seats option.

Renault. Right were shall I start, years ago (when I was a youth) I foolishly owned 6 yes 6 of these cars one after another. 2x 5's 2 x Clio's and 2 x Megane Coupe's.
I can only add to the extensive negative comments already made by others here today. Yes Renault's are utter rubbish!!!!!!!
Constant cabin build quality issues, locking problems, sun roof rattles, wheel bearing failures, electrical gremlins, paint warranty problems, new cars delivered with scuffed alloys etc etc.
Dealers are also as stated shambolic.
I would NEVER buy another one of these French monkeys again.

Sadly the saga isn't quite over for me. My wife owns a Nissan Quashqai (think its spelt like this) which as owned by Renault has lived up to its French owners "reliability". So far this 2 year old vehicle has had a replacement gear box, clutch, wheel bearing pack, centre console lid, rear shocks. It is due to have a door check strap replaced later this month also.
Utter utter rubbish............................

looked at that galaxy on ebay, its petrol and 3 years older......and green, never had any luck with green... dont ask

Ummm....I had a Fuego back in the early eighties and it looked good then! Was fairly reliable I guess.... not had a Renault since although a friend of mine just bought a nearly new Megane and in 5 weeks hasn't had a problem.....yet.... :)

Don`t touch Renault with a barge pole!

Read Honest John`s "car by car breakdown"

Renault ownership is not Happy Motoring !

Assuming you need seven seats, can I suggest looking at anything other than an Espace...

And when it comes to safety, they're a plastic shell on a crappy chassis. There is none.

Even a Voyager, or a Kia Sedona, would be a better buy, and there's a few of them at under 3 grand on autotrader.

Thats the weird thing.. Espaces, and generally ALL Renaults have a 5 star Ncap rating. I think the Voyager got 2?

BUT

I think Renault just know how to "play the game". Give me a Volvo for safety anyday!

P.S.

Megane headlamp bulbs.
Turn the steering full lock. Lie in a puddle,in the dark,in the rain.remove the filthy little round cover under the wheelarch. stick your hand in the 'ole and flick off the stupid bit of bent wire that holds the bulb in. remove bulb. Search for stupid bit of wire. fit new bulb and secure, replace stupid cover. switch on lights to find its still not working. attempt to find fusebox..I think there are 5. Give up and scrap the bloody thing.

I nearly spat my coffee out reading that. A class lamps aren't much different, neither were the ones on my Rover 75 (also a wheelarch job). The E class requires moving the expansion tank to change one side of them.

The V50 has slide out headlamp units. That's sensible.

im starting to get the feeling that people dont like renaults........phew. i never liked them anyway ever since my 1994 renault laguna snapped the timing belt and bent valves...got it fixed and it done the same thing within 500miles...this was about 8 years ago.. i take it nothing has changed. and it was GREEN.

Thats a bulb. Remember its a legal requirement in many countries to carry a spare bulb kit. If asked by the Polizei, you must do this before proceeding with your journey...at the side of an autobahn,in the dark,in the rain.

if this is how difficult, time consuming and plain bloody stupid the design of the car makes it to change a bulb, which is of course a consumable.. think how the rest of the car is , change an air filter for example, or even worse, a diesel fuel filter..guess where that is.

Doncha just love how technology improves our lives? Mr Edison would be proud.
