My ladys looking at a renault.....

I've had a Megane from new since 2003(Cabrio) What a waste of money, cost was £18,650 with hardly any discount from dealer(They knocked off the £650) Had the first service done at renault and they broke an a/c pipe but refused to replace it as they said 'It wasn't their fault. Althoogh a/c was working fine when I took it in and didn't when I got it back. Found the a/c pipe that connects to bulkhead had been snapped off!!!

3 sets of coils in 29,000 miles(Thats how many miles the car has done)

Rattle from Caprio roof since new that I can't get rid of. Its a bolt that the roof clips onto, I tighten it and it works loose within a couple of hundred miles.

Recently broke down and found a wire from the crank sensor has chaffed on body/dash.

Erm, hate car and its probably only worth about £3,000 now if I'm lucky.

NEVER BUY A RENUALT, they are crap....

so, we have a renault espace owner praising the old girl......is there any other espace owners that have likewise experience of alloam? i like the look but it just seems overwhelming negativity...

A neighbour of ours had a 2003 Espace as a company car for three years. No exageration, that car was in the garage as many times as it was on the road being used. On the plus side, they liked the space and the futuristic dashboard and general look of the car. but the most relevent words they said to me as it left to be replaced by a Ford Galaxy: "I'm just glad we didn't own i!".....'nuf said...

Have a stress free life and buy something German. It will be worth the few extra quid invested for the hassle a Renault will cause, and I speak from experience.

Or go for a Galaxy! In the year they've had it, no problems - and, a friend had an S-Max. also without any problems! Go Ford, eh! :D

We had a Renault 18 (iirc) when I was growing up.

It had an orange stripe down the side. This is all I can remember (I must have been about 6 or 7) but hope it helps :D

PS Don't buy French! You'll only encourage them!

Unfortunatley I can only echo the gist of feedback

I had a top of the range 2.2dci 2002 Laguna estate until Merc

BEST car I have ever had for comfort, refinement (jest not) -.... but only when it worked.

For the three years I had it (from 1 year old) it had more replaced than Jordan

Turbo, gearbox, injectors, electrics, a/c, parking sensors....

Lovely car to sit in and look at

On a postive note the dealer here wasn't that bad (nor the indie I used for a year)

Also HAD a 51 reg Megane

Note past tense of all this - never, EVER again a Renault (and probably french...)

Steer clear.

The Galaxy range or even Zafira (we have one) much better

I had 2 scenics in the period 2000-2006 & the only problems I had were with 1 set of coils. Although out of warranty they were changed for a nominal charge whilst on holiday in France.

Bought my first M/B B class in early 2006 but had constant problems with it (ex demo of one of the frst in the country). Liked the looks & performance of the car so traded it in for a new one a 2007/8 model. So far (touch wood) this new one has been much better.

Comparing the 2 Scenic verses the B class the Scenic's were better equipped (storage spaces etc) but the B is a nicer car to drive. Servicing was cheaper on the Renault than the B.

In my experience the Renaults were more reliable than my first B (maybe it was a friday afternoon job). The present B is now 2 1/2 years old & I am pleased with it.

.....reliability update....

Boot lid failed to lock on scenic while out on saturday night..had to drive home with it unlocked.

Got home, tried it again...worked fine.....hmmmm

My wife's uncle had a 3.0 Laguna which developed such terrible electrical problems (at under 4 years old) the car was put beyond economic repair. No dealer back up, no good will.

And no further business. Now owns a perfectly trouble-free Vauxhall Astra.

thanks guys for the info and experiences shared, i dont think i will be going down the road of renault.......

she has spotted a mitsubishi shogun lwb in silver with nice rims on, it has 7 seats as well, i quite like it too. might have a look tomorrow, whats the thoughts on these then......(quite scared to ask lol)

Ah!! One of our friends in Russia has one of these! GREAT for going in the forrests and dealing with Russian roads full of potholes. The key to any car being a success in Russia is reliability (hence the popularity of Japanese cars and the fact you don't see many French cars...) as there is no breakdown service... Mitsubishis are very popular...says it all! :)

Can't speak abour the Shogun from personal experience but there is an M plate model here, a 2.8 litre.

I remember it from before we moved here (owned by a geordie ex-pat) and it is caned all around the island, up and down the mountains, used to load firewood, parts for yachts, launching speedboats and all the rest of it.

It's still going strong and apart from a dent in the back door (pi$$ed-up geordie ex-pat) I can see it going for a lot longer.

Come to thik of it, if anyone knows of one for sale in the region of 2000 grand, I would be interested.

Its a good engine the DiD...but slow. Perfect for all those hills in the City.

Though quite a few former Renault owner's have chimed in.

OK, time to 'fess up...

I am a previous Espace owner...:p

It was a 1998 Model, the Matra built fibreglass one, quite different to the new renault built steel one.

It was a 2.2 DT. The following statements are all true.
Bought unseen from Ebay.
210,000. (two hundred and ten thousand miles- I have pics somewhere)
Absolutley MINT condition (I have pics)
1 previous owner-man of the cloth
everything worked. Everything.
Full renault service history.
100% reliable during our ownership
Indicated 129 MPH on the way to Blackpool 5 of us and 2 dogs with a weeks holiday gear.

If all Renaults were like our Espace, I would drive nothing else. I have never come across another Renault like our Espace... I see Clio's Meganes,Laguna's Kangoos,Scenics- even Safranes every day with problems I wouldn't wish on anyone. Stupid design faults, poor quality materials and just plain poor build quality.. BUT

Very nice to drive.Quiet, nicely trimmed and well specced. Good value for money you would think, and lots of showroom appeal. I can fully understand WHY people buy them!

lol.........you kept that quiet, aww well we all have our skeletons, im cooling totally to the espace now, i think the shogun has ny vote...
