In the last two years I've had a 2007 BMW Z4 M Coupe, a 2005 BMW M3 Convertible and a 2006 BMW 535d M-Sport Touring (still have this) Well having just bought the Exige and wanting a car to use to soak up the miles for work, but something cheap, the Mercs seemed to have aged a lot better than the bimmers (talking around 10yrs old)
I was looking at either a C Class (Coupe or saloon) a CLK or an E Class. Main thing is I didn't want an engine bigger than 2.7 (to justify this car needed awesome fuel economy )
I love my toys so if a good one come up with what appeared to have a high spec, CLK, C or E wouldn't matter. My must have was just full leather interior. Bear in mind my original budget was £2k, realised I was going to have to buy something with a gazzilion miles on it to achieve that, so upped it to £3-4k, cheaper the better. Although if I was going to push it that high I wanted something that ticked a lot of boxes
Anyway after a few weeks of looking what appeared to be the ideal car popped up for sale in my revised budget. A C Class Coupe, 2002, 97k miles, FSH, full leather, heated, electric with memory, panoramic sunroof and Sat Nav! Even had Tax until June. Up to this point I hadn't found a car with all that. I love sunroofs, particularly the big ones And although I normally only use the factory fit Navs as a back up (preferring to use TomTom or my phone) the screens often incorporate other functions making it easier to use and tend to look a lot better. Also good for resale. Come with a private plate that although would mean little to me good for hiding the year So a call to the dealer he seemed a decent guy. So on Friday I got the train there and drove the car back :bannana:
The missus seems to prefer driving it to the 5 series! (probably down to the size) She has driven it more than me, we've put 500miles on it since Friday So far very impressed, especially as its an 11yr old car! MPG is showing 42mpg since I bought it, and thats lots of country roads, town traffic too. So far all the electrics seem to be working ok. Even found a CD Changer in the glove box that works perfectly. Cigarette lighter wasn't working, just the fuse gone, so now it is. I do suspect it may require a wheel bearing as I'm getting a whirring noise from the rear most noticeable as the speed gets up, fingers crossed its not the diff.
Anyway enough waffling here are a few pictures
