Mysterious hydraulic fluid container

Hopefully an easy question!

Whilst looking round the engine bay of my 99 E300TD Estate, I see a container at the front right hand side labelled Master Hydraulic Fluid (or possibly Central Hydraulic Fluid. Something like this anyway!)

What does this supply - power steering?, or do I have self levelling suspension on the rear supplied by this, or both?

What type of fluid goes in here. Its a bit below the minimum, so I would like to top it up.

is it this it?

this is the suspension self levelling tank

no idea what to put in it :( distilled fish oil? ;) owners manual?

Yep this is for the rear suspension and I topped mine up a few weeks ago. Get the fluid from your MB dealer as risky to get another branded one. Not the Citroen stuff!

Sadly the owners manual makes no mention of this. I'm off down the dealer to get the right stuff then. Bit concerned now as to why it needs topping up - its not like it evaporates! I'm sure everything will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Mine's low as well, better get to the stealers before they run out.

be careful how you check the level.

You need to have the rear of the car fully loaded (over 120kg weight) and the engine running to check it.

The level will vary from time to time and don't overfill it
