Mystic Blue SL400 New Car Detail by Divine Detail Surrey

Actually identical to that spec above in every way bar it's RHD.

TDF blue over beige, no shields, black calipers.

If it comes off I'll be driving the hell out of mine.

I've never even driven a 550. I have driven 4 575's though. Three with F1 gearboxes which all drove differently, then a manual one. It was when I drove the manual car that I realised that's what I'd been looking for. I've never driven anything like it, it was simply lovely. As there were only ever 69 RHD manual 575's ever built and they now command a 100% premium over an F1 it made sense to look for a 550 (which were all manual), which aesthetically I prefer. The 575 is mechanically superior in a lot of respects though, it would be around £100K more though as a manual.

Is it this?

Edit: just noticed this has red calipers

It's not on Autotrader or Pistonheads, it's with a specialist. It only appeared last Thursday.

Chuckle, thanks for this. What a great car. As I said, my B-in-L loved his. I remember my first “holy sheet” passenger ride in it, down some lanes in the Cotswolds. An extraordinary very fast car.

Hope the transaction works out OK for you.

I know Ed and he talks about your Mystic Blue quote fondly. On the assumption, that is, that you're also the owner of the Bentley coloured 'orange' hued S6.

Yes that's me. He really likes the SL colour. So do I, in fact I'm wondering if I want to sell it now. I'm off to see the 550 tomorrow afternoon and I'm now erring on keeping the SL as well, I'm not sure I can part with it. Funny how attached you can get to inanimate objects.

Sold the Audi last month with the used market so strong, I was offered a number that far exceeded what it should have been worth at 4.5 years old. It's being replaced with a Taycan CT that's due in January (ordered in May). These people bought it from me.

Did think of saying to my wife I had just spent half the house remodelling budget on getting back to a nice convertible to replace my SLK55 , bottled out as the architect just confirmed he has the finished drawings ready to present to us on Wednesday 😥

It is indeed a lovely looking car in a superb colour. Those pics really do show the true before and after condition of the paintwork.

Just needs the suspension dropping a fraction to fill the wheel arches to make it perfect;)
That would just make the ride even harder just for the sake of an aesthetic. Perhaps a higher profile tyre, if that were possible, would solve tow problems in one.

Starting to regret selling my C63 204 Wagon now as well. Wish I had kept it but lack of garage space forced the sale.

So this afternoon I went and drove this:-

It looked lovely, you couldn't have expected a 21 year old car in better condition, apart from the interior - that need a bit of work.

Then I drove it, and just didn't like it at all. What is it they say about not meeting your heroes?

I couldn't believe how different it was to drive than a 575, so back to the drawing board looking for one of those.

It was actually a joy to get back in the SL and drive back home.

That’s a shame. Might be worth driving another 575 soon to make sure that they really are what you remember them to be.

You're probably right. I'm going to wait for the Taycan arrive which should be mid January and then have a rethink.

I've now got so used to driving modern vehicles that maybe I just have a romantic notion about old manual stuff that simply isn't realistic.

I love that orange colour on the S6. I forgot you had that done.

I felt exactly the same each of the three times I tried a Granturismo.

And that was getting back into my 2013/63 CL 500 BE - which in the end I found really uncomfortable on longer journeys it turns out.

What did you not like about the 550? Too agricultural or just not a pleasing drive?

The clutch was very heavy compared the the 575 I drove. Having now had a chat with some people on Fchat they think it may need a new clutch as it gradually gets heavier towards the end of it's life.

Steering heavy also which I hadn't felt in previous cars.

Of course there's a real chance this car needed work, but having never driven a 550 before I have nothing to compare it to directly.

(I've gone with Oak Green Metallic over chalk beige on the Taycan - I got an early PTS slot).

I think it may be worth driving another 550 as well as a 575. Not tempted by a 599? Admittedly they’re less delicate in appearance, but a handsome car to these old eyes.

I thought that you would've gone for a 355 which is manual, sweeter handling and lighter, rather than another GT.

Wishing you a speedy and pain free recovery👍
