Car
Mercedes C220 cdi amg
I'm still getting to grips with my new merc so learning slowly...

I have the sat nav prep all present but could someone tell me more about it and options available please?

Assuming it has the cradle in the glovebox, you need a Becker Map Pilot. Available from Mercedes for around £500. Available on Amazon from Becker for a nice saving ...

Does the Becker map pilot allow use of the hands free button on the steering wheel?

By handsfree, do you mean the phone pickup and hangup buttons ?

If so, that is a function of the car stereo rather than the add on map-pilot.

(I have assumed your car is a very recent W204 C Class from your answers, as you seem to have acknowledged having a cradle for the map-pilot in the glovebox)

Richard

This might help, I think it has the car configuration in it - http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/new-member-introductions/190825-new-merc-new-user.html

The button just above the handsfree which looks like a head with sound coming out (terrible description i know!)

I've just read about a Garmin map pilot - is that an option for this car or am I restricted to the Becker?

Thanks
a) Your car is a W204 with Audio-20 and the Becker pre-wire options.
b) Only Becker i'm afraid. The Garmin stuff is in the W205, and consists of an upgraded head unit (which may be standard in UK) and a SD card with map on it
c) That button is the voice recognition button, and is not supported with Audio-20/Becker

There is one other option, have the Audio-20 replaced with COMAND NTG4.5. That has a bigger screen and much better navigation system in-built, which voice recognition. But its a few times more expensive than plugging in a Becker map-pilot.

Becker map pilot manual: https://www.beckermappilot.com/manuals/Manual_MAP_PILOT_EN.pdf

Hope that helps !

Thanks for that - bit annoying about the voice recognition button but not to worry.

Very much doubt I'll replace the audio 20, several hundred quid is already enough!

Cheers

I have a 2014 registered C220 and Becker/Audio 20 combination, and can confirm the speech recognition function does indeed work. Press the button (R/H side of wheel) and speak an address. The Becker will search - sometime successfully, sometimes not...

Loofah,

I have a Becker module that I have just removed from my '62 W204.

If your looking for a module and your interested pm me.

I was going to list it on flea bay for £250, but would take £220 on it.

Comes with original box, cables, etc.

Unmarked condition and fully working.
