Negotiating on used car at MB dealer

If you have paid the deposit over the phone, you are still ina good bargaining position as distance selling rules come into play - essentially, you can have your deposit back within 7 days of seeing teh goods (or something like that).

Only if the whole deal is done at a distance, and the car is delivered to you. Once you set foot in the dealership DSR doesn't apply.
 
In all fairness, it makes no odds to me if you were to pay £55k. I am in the trade and whenever anyone wants a general idea on the value of their car, I tell them to look there. I was telling you about that site in particular so you could use whatcars valuation as leverage, but if you are happy paying the screen price then good luck to you.

Don't get me wrong i was genuinely interested in knowing if you knew of better deals around as from my watching of the pricing I saw £39,995 as a solid price for a 2008 car with low miles, fully loaded and with PP

Here is another little tip to find out how much, give or take a few quid, they have paid for the vehicle. Have a look on there website for any car that is about £10k more than the C63. Ring them to enquire about said car and tell them you have a C63 PP with, say 15k miles on, to part exchange. Tell them you live far away and would prefer a rough valuation over the phone so that you knew what to expect if you went through to have a look at it.
When you then go through to purchase your C63 you can barter in the knowledge that you know how much they roughly paid for it.:thumb: I would say they have about £30-34k in the car. Good luck anyway and I hope you can save a few quid in the process...:D

They dropped the price by £3k 2 weeks ago (it was previously advertised at £42,990 i think it was).....they're looking to shift it by the end of their half year so were fairly adamant on a completion by 30 September......so the screen price has already come down if you like - i saw it happen over the space of a month or so

The car has been registered by MB i believe and used by the dealership director so the cost to them is slightly ambiguous as they won't have bought it in through p/x, or if they did it might have been some time ago

Calling them asking for a valuation on a similar car is a good idea - i might get a mate to do it ;)

Not wishing to be alarmist, but the often used term "management car" doesn't often get used on a car driven by management, it's usually rental, track/tuition, press, etc. Milton Keynes registrations used to be a useful guide, but I think they're smarter with registrations these days.

Cars actually used by dealer management are typically described as "ex-demo".

Of course track/tuition cars will have been maintained well, but driven hard, so best to go in with your eyes wide open if there's a possibility that a car could have been used for tuition.
 
That is a very, very good price for 14k C63 with PP - it really wouldn't have lasted long at that price. That's indeed the cheapest PP car I have ever seen to date (but very satisfyingly still a good £8k more than an M3 of similar vintage ;)) If you get anymore off the price then you're doing very well but like others have said, at least try and get them to provide the next service for free??

Finance wise, I too have used Oracle in the past and found them extremely competitive - I'm talking thousands of pounds cheaper than using any manufacturer's own finance. The only reason I used MB finance on my current one is the subsidised deal MB are / were doing on new C63's where they chucked in something like £5k into the deal. Even then, they only just beat Oracle by a few quid!

'ex-demo' can mean anything as well.

A local non-MB dealership provides staff with cars. They are also handed out to customers as short and long term courtesy cars. Sometimes even used as rentals. And of course used as demonstrators. Sometimes parked up the back lot with a sticker price and then if needed put back into circulation.

A used car is a used car.

There is no point in being alarmist whether you wish not to be or not.

At the end of the day it's the whole deal and not the price that counts.

I've seen dealers baseline the sticker price on a car such that they won't budge on it. They knock off the top end of the deal to get a bite and then recover it on the trade-in offer, finance, and GAP.

I will rephrase that- never accept the first deal on the table :)

As opposed to those that sit and look on the Autotrader/ Pistonheads/ Mercedes-Benz Direct all day, and profess to be an expert....:doh:
 
I was going to go on to explain how everything is negotiable and you absolutely should never buy a used (or new) car, no matter how good the price, without at least trying to negotiate which of course is where "Never pay the sticker price" comes in, but I thought this was all getting too complicated and so came to conclusion he's best off not to think - as indeed by his own words he doesn't :D

i've been to see several cars over the last 3 months, lost some of them and passed up on some of them, i've looked a prices most days as cars have come and gone (most cars haven't, they've com.......and stayed because they are badly priced) and i've taken a view

this is kind of descending into typical forum tit for tat about car prices which i find quite boring!! i'll let the c63 users have their say on whether its a decent price or not but to be honest i'm bored of having no wheels and just want into a good car

yeah i will get to the bottom of it a little more when i go up there to see them although they have told me it hasn't been tracked at all. a used car is a used car, i'm not particularly precious to be honest, i just want full spec in a decent condition that has been serviced as required etc.

who's to say an normal joe public owner has treated a car better than people at a dealership? ahhh whatever, again, i'm not fussed by all that, just want into a car now after waiting for around for a few months
